SGA Recs: McShep
Jan. 10th, 2010 01:21 pmI know I recc'd this before (did I? Or did I just mention I was reading it?) ... okay, I'm not sure I recc'd this before.
In case I didn't, you must run and read:
Tongues Of Men And Angels by
mad_maudlin, PG-13, McShep
A rich, plotty read. John wakes up from an SGC mission with his entire team dead to find he's badly injured and under the care of a Tok'ra: Rodney McKay. Slowly the reasons McKay's history and the reasons he's healing John unspool as the Goa'uld stalk their hiding place. What's remarkable about her story isn't just the compelling plot and expert pacing, but interrelationships between John, Rodney, and Rodney's symbiote. The tension never lets up as this action-adventure story builds to a climax, and Maud takes John to places that at the beginning of the story I would call impossible.
The Mute Sheppard by
auburnnothenna, R, McShep
A complex, compelling story of John back on Earth after Atlantis returns to the galaxy. John falls apart after DADT is suspended and doesn't seem to realize it. Comet-like, he manages to do a lot of damage in the process. The starkly realistic relationships give this story both heart and grit.
Everything Changes (And You Gotta Be Ready) by
temaris, PG-13, McShep
A Dr. Who/SGA crossover that works. I truly believe this version of the Doctor and gleefully watched his encounter with John ("Is that a bicycle pump? Seriously?"). It slowed down a bit with the arrival of the Valiant but there's nothing like an encounter between the Doctor and the Wraith ("Have you tried talking to them?") to get the blood moving. While the story is McShep, the real touching relationship belongs to Ronon ... but I won't spoil it. :)
