If they unfriend you because you want to try out a new service...or they could do what I did and unfriend people at LJ and friend them at DW. The confusing part is not everyone keeps the same username...
But if they truly unfriended you in both locations over this...then I think you're better off without them.
But then again I'm not exactly attached to my entire flist just certain people. :) Like the ones I talk with mostly. :)
Every time someone unfriends me for crossposting to DW I feel like I'm getting punished. It's a little kick in the shin each time it happens. I contact the long-term friend, ask them what's going on ... and it's because I'm posting on DW.
they are being assholes and are probably stupid or haven't gotten a computer virus browsing LJ yet...but yeah I can see how that would feel like a kick in the shin. I think the LJ people are upset that so many writers, icon makers, vidders, and etc are moving away from LJ and are trying to control what people do which sucks.
It would make sense if you'd decided to completely abandon LJ but you haven't. I've been crossposting for a year and my DW is growing slowly but surely. :) I also think my LJ has remained steady...but honestly I haven't looked in over 5 months. I just do what I want and not worry about it.
It's one thing if it's someone I don't know well, or if it's clear our fandom interests have shifted. But if it's someone I know, it puts me through this loop of contacting an old friend and asking why they unfriended me, if something's wrong.
No, no, no, they're just pruning crossposters off their f-list on LJ. But it puts me into a cycle each time of "wait, X unfriended me?" Then I contact them and...
... it's because of DW again. They either have a completely different name on DW or they friended me on DW so many months ago that there wasn't a change there.
It's not horrible. More like the level of pain from a paper cut.
ooooh! I completely misunderstood. *hugs* I am vastly reassured, now.
I tend to not notice when I'm being defriended, and since I personally don't defriend on Lj but instead filter people out - I want them to still have access to the locked stuff there, the stuff of yore - I hadn't thought of that possibility.

Date: 2010-04-27 12:43 pm (UTC)I found out about 3W4DW today so I don't have anything prepared, no plans made. For now, I've just decided to comment more on DW.
