In the hallway at my new place stands (barely) a massive, 7' high, 4' wide, leaning tower of Pisa. Only the fact that one of the boxes has caught on the door frame keeps this pile standing. Bookcases are desperately needed.

I'm particular about bookcases.

Wood veneers crack and peel off, so they have to be solid wood. I've destroyed two Ikea Billy bookcases. That's enough for me.

They need to be taaaaaaallllll because I have lot of books. 70" - 80". Door height.

They need to be relatively deeeeeep because of my three-ring binders with Buddhist manuscripts. 12" deep shelves.

The shelves have to be strong because I don't use them to display paper mache artwork -- I'm using them to hold hardbound textbooks and three-ring binders with plastic sheet protectors on every page. We're talking serious heft. You grunt when you pick up one.

I'm looking for moderately priced. I don't really want to spend more than $250 each because I've got to buy a lot of them. Though I'll spend more if they've got glass or wood doors. Those three-ring binders? Not attractive.

As you can imagine, this is a frustrating search. The internet is faaaaaiiiiling me.

Argh.

In other news, with the move, saving the temple et al ... progress on the Big Bang this week = zero.

I have been really satisfied with Storables brand folding, stacking bookcases (like these ones here, but I don't think mine are bamboo). Lots of places make a similar shape; the Storables ones are, in my experience, the sturdiest and most likely to stack as advertised. These might be a little small for you, and they don't have doors . . . but they are easy to move, which is a bonus.
