There's a scene I want to draw -- because I had no camera -- where the students in caps and gowns moved up the ramp onto the field, an oblong of blue sky and a banner saying "Welcome Huskies" above, a sea of caps tilted upward in awe as we all seemed to get it at once ... we really graduated. All 4,000 of us.

I feel a little silly.

I mean, first I announced that "yay, I graduated!" when I passed the last hurdle last fall.

Then I said "yay, I graduated!" when I was awarded my degree last December.

Now I'm saying "yay, I graduated!" again when I walked with my class this weekend.

But celebrating it officially with my dad and his wife and with the school -- and the city, the UW graduation was on the front page of the Seattle Times and so people saw me in my cap and gown, waved, and said, "Congratulations!" -- has been a wonderful, heart-warming experience.

It was a wonderful trip. Dad loved Seattle! We went to excellent restaurants and enjoyed every minute.
