icarusWoke to a thin crust of snow on the ground, already scraped clean by the frozen wind. It looks, and feels, and awful lot like Michigan, with temps in the twenties (Fahrenheit) and windchill hovering in the single digits.
And today Pepco is shutting the power off.
From 10pm to noon tomorrow. They scheduled it last week, left a rather unpleasant and rather defensive note on the door. These repairs are "imperative!" they say.
Uh-huh. Looks like Pepco deferred repairs again until disaster was imminent. Greedy little Pepco lines its pockets first and maintains the grid second. I'd bet any money they've milked it dry to the point where if they did all the urgent repairs now, they'd go deeply in the red. Short-sighted people.
Pepco's the same power company whose PR person, after a power outage lasting three days this summer, informed the area that "We don't consider a power outage to be an emergency."
Just across the border, not five minutes from here, Alleghany Power has treated its customers well, invested in underground power lines. Those heavy storms last winter, with the worst snow in 100 years? Where parts of the city went without power for a week at a time?
Alleghany lost power once all winter. For, hmm, forty-five minutes.
I'd switch to Alleghany if I could.
