Merlin recs, anyone?

I've been away from the Merlin fandom for a while. Now that I'm getting caught up on season three as it's being played in the US, I'm sniffing around for Merlin fic.

What do you recommend?

I love Merlin-Wears-A-Dress stories and stories that do their homework on the middle ages. I've found I'm not fond of modern AUs in this fandom (no, not even Drastically Redefining Protocol -- it's the time period that I enjoy).

Any suggestions? I'm pretty sure that, having been gone for so long, I've missed all (or most) of the classics.

I recced like a crazy person early in Merlin, then got bowled over by the firehose that the output was, so my recs lists skew toward older stories.

For Merlin-Wears-A-Dress, I have a few under Genderfuck on the tropes page (thehoyden's, especially, is adorable!).

For middle ages fic, skellerbvvt's Polishing Buttons far outdoes canon on that score. Astolat also does a good job, on the mythology side, especially the The Beltane Cycle. (And all hers were pretty much instant classics, as you might guess.) seperis does a good job capturing the times, too. And I just finished reading Venivincere's Light of Arthur, which is a fascinating look at the time when Christianity was encroaching on the Old Gods (very much on a fictional way, not necessarily historical, and, er, not very kind to Christianity).

All recs on my main recs page and most on the tropes recs page will be canon timeline, except where indicated by the tropes itself (Far Future, AU, RPS, some Time Travel).
