Okay, sports fans, let's pick your favourite of the two (arbitrarily selected) [livejournal.com profile] cybele_san stories listed below. Yes, [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1 has opened the door to write in votes. Please don't bash one story to prove your point about the other (that's what [livejournal.com profile] hpbnfdm_lives is for).

If You Are Prepared
Quill and Ink
Just Add Water

I know that's more than two. I couldn't decide!

That's your job. Grins.

ETA: Wow. This battle is already heating up.
ETA2: Whoops. Thanks, I fixed the link for Just Add Water.

You can still vote, but the results are here!

Other votes -
Maya, Amanuensis, Rushlight, Sushi, Aspen, Anna, and Cassandra Claire.

What exactly are you going to do with the winning fics, anyway? Anything?

Er. I hadn't thought about that. I suppose at the end I can put up a post with all the 'FList Favourites' with links to each of the stories, then save it in memories. This is really informal.

Fascinating, isn't it, what people like and why? *gazes at flist with interest.*

With all your other fic recs? *amused*

It really is. Considering someone could (and has, I think, although I only glanced over some of the responses) like a fic for the exact same reason I don't like it. Plus, you really find out what aspects of fic people value; it's fine to compare great fics and merely good or not-so-great fics, but when you compare two (multiple) really good ones, the voters really have to become choosy. Nit-picky, almost.

You mean the democratic fic recs? (laughs) Yeah, that got mowed down by [livejournal.com profile] hp_dungeons.

I still have them saved in a Word file, but I wasn't willing to move over any more of my Buddhist stuff for more HP Fanfiction, and with Earthlink's new Trellix program, updating is a lot slower, so I couldn't put them all on the same page I have for my HP Fanfic. I was planning to move my site (because I was seriously pissed off at Earthlink) and go with another ISP. Then I could have a separate page for them. But I need to learn more HTML, need to learn File Transfer Protocols -- all that's beyond my ken right now. The time I was going to use to movethesite/learnthisshit got devoured.

Yeah, and when you're looking at the same author's work, you're really splitting hairs. It's also giving the author the feedback they need to develop their writing, to see what worked for people and why.

A review for an individual story is good, but it's the different branches in writing and writing style that we really need to know about - which story was more compelling and why. I find this sort of comparison more compelling than comparing different authors, because you're working with what an author has already developed.
