Our next victim - er - candidate: Sushi!
Jan. 15th, 2004 03:26 pmLet move along to another prolific author, the only one on the list who's collected works will probably include a 12-volume set on the same story (wink):
wikdsushi.
Remember that
amanuensis1 did open that pandora's box of write-in votes, which I will add as I notice them. The fics I select for the vote are arbitrary, but if you want to beat up one story in favour of another, remember to take it outside.. to
hpbnfdm_lives where that sort of thing is encouraged. Besides.
wikdsushi will attack you with Teefs.
Civil War
In Academia
The Beast
The Last Dance (Drama section)
The Consequences Of A Weary Mind (Humour section)
Note: These links will all take you to the same place.
The write-ins have already begun:
Fire Burn and Cauldron Double
Shedding Skin
Two
Welcome to my Nightmare
Flight
(Snickering still: I have whiplash from Sushi's nomination.)
ETA: Oh. Right. Don't forget to tell us why you're voting for whichever fic.
ETA2: Ha. And I thought this wouldn't have as many write-ins.
ETA3: I thought you should know that the steamcleaner infomercial I'm watching says - "not all steam is created equal."
I think that needs more of a sense of authority. Ah. I know --
"Confucius say, not all steam created equal."
The votes are in, and the results are (drumroll please) Here!
Other votes are Maya, Amanuensis, Rushlight, Anna, Aspen, Cybele, and Cassandra Claire.

It's just...gah. I'm not a huge Snape/Draco fan, but that made me think I was. And I've read both over and over again.

Date: 2004-01-15 05:25 pm (UTC)It's hard to pick between all of Sushi's fics, especially Civil War and The Last Dance.
I'm going to do another write-in, Two. Even though it's short, it's got all of my favorite things: SS/HP, RL/HP, and a love triangle. And, oh, how very angsty!

Date: 2004-01-15 05:26 pm (UTC)And there was nowhere near enough shagging in "Last Battlefield...." but still...
yup, I gotta go for "Civil War".

Date: 2004-01-15 05:47 pm (UTC)I love the epics...in fact, I adore all of her stories, I really do, but the one I always come back to is Consequences of a Weary Mind. I even have that on printed out, and I take that one with me whenever I go somewhere. I usually pull it out when I'm having a sad moment, of which I had a lot recently, and it never failed to cheer me up. *snickers*

Date: 2004-01-15 06:54 pm (UTC)But... The Last Dance. Which kills me every single time. I've read it twice. I can't hear Unchained Melody at all without tearing up. This is the angstiest angst fic ever written from start to finish, there's no joy, no possibility of hope, just death and death and grief all the way. With sex.
*whines*
I need to cast a split vote:
1/2 vote to In Academia
1/2 vote to The Last Dance

Date: 2004-01-15 07:02 pm (UTC)I DIED over that fic, okay? Died and now haunt LJ as one of the Undead. So that gets my first vote.
Civil War comes second as the sense of humor there kinda warped me into the Blue Alien Genetic Experiment (with vampire traits!) that I am today. Mweh!

Date: 2004-01-15 07:09 pm (UTC)I absolutely CANNOT decide between:
Civil War. This isn't just fanfic, it's an entire canon in itself. An achievement unrivalled in scope and depth.
The Last Dance. This ripped my cynical heart out and crushed it. But there's not an ounce of sap or OOCness in it.
In Academia. The story that made me believe in Voldemort as a lover, and that shows a nasty Snape who dies unredeemed, and yet remains a sympathetic character.

Date: 2004-01-15 07:47 pm (UTC)Hmm. Civil War is one of my favourite HP novels of all time and has the sentimental pull as being THE fanfic that shoved me wide-eyed in the world of HP slash (and Snape/Harry). The Last Dance tore me up when I read it...I still get choked up just thinking about it. Two...devastated me. I've only been able to read it once because it was so real and so utterly, beautifully painful. The Last Battlefield--oh God. When I beta'd it, I swear I went through a box of Kleenex every other chapter. The Consequences of a Weary Mind...cracks me up every time. I also adore Welcome to My Nightmare and Harry Potter and the Mai Tai of Doom.
*looks at list* Gee. Think I'm a Sushi fan? *snerk*
But I absolutely have to cast my vote for The Beast on the merit of it being the most original, most in-character AU fic I have ever read. I love Snape in this fic; Harry-Voldemort is chilling; the elves are fabulous. And I even like the bittersweet epilogue. It's just right for that story.
So there we go. The Beast.

The Last Dance
b/c it's sweet and funny and sexy and all kinds of sad, and just...perfect.

Date: 2004-01-15 08:46 pm (UTC)The Beast, though, gets my vote. Original, pulls you in like you're there. Wonderful characters. Did I mention original? Severus/horse - and it works!!! : / Only Sushi.

That's like someone putting a box of Godiva in front of you and saying, "Go on, pick your favorite." HOW? THEY'RE ALL GOOD.
Um...
I think I'm going to go with In Academia. In quality I cannot tell them apart, but I'm a bit more fond of cowboy-hat!Snape than skunk-haired!Snape, you see.

Date: 2004-01-16 01:02 am (UTC)Eh, I just really like the idea of the Sevs duking it out again. *grin* With the Harries on the sidelines, dressed like cheerleaders (including IA Harry, who is just sitting on the bench, glaring at nothing). Of course, the Sevs are dressed like cheerleaders as well. But that's 'cause I'm evil. *eg*
