icarus: Snape by mysterious artist (Default)
[personal profile] icarus
Okay, made good progress in the starter kit. I've ruthlessly culled the list down from its massive proportions consisting solely of novel-length stories to just One short story and One novel per pairing.

Mostly.

Here's what we still need:

One-shots:
Snape/Lucius: Can you recommend a good one-shot?
Remus/Sirius: Do you know any good one-shots?
Draco/Neville: I know there have got to be some good one-shots.

Novel-length:
Snape/Lupin: Are there any novel-length?
Harry/Lucius: Are there any novel-length? Or reasonably long?
Snape/Draco: Any novel-length? How 'bout just really, really long?

Both:
Percy/Oliver: No one recommended a single story!
Percy/Lucius: Need one-shot and novel (if available, ha)

My Gen Recs are pretty skimpy, as are my Het Recs, though this list is slash-oriented and I say that up front.

For those who go straight for the Porn, I'm looking for recs for the following NC-17 one-shots (mostly because all the kink I read involves Percy, eheh):

Magical Bond
Threesome
Incest
Exhibitionism
Voyeurism
Bondage
S&M

The fine print: I'm still not including WiPs (we can torment them later...), though series fics like The Tea Series are acceptable.

My own fics are only considered if more than one person suggests them, since this is my journal and it's likely people who read it also read my stories. If my own fics are suggested, they're still subject to being culled if I think there's something that's more representative of the pairing (i.e., so far only Beg Me For It has made the cut).

ETA: Yes, self-pimping is allowed. But if your Harry/Snape story is up against The Tea Series, your chances of being included are slim.

ETA2: Pants first, then shoes. Let me post the list before you bash it. If you bash it before it's been posted, it sounds like a personal issue instead a qualm with the list. Since you haven't read the list yet.

ETA3: No anti-recs, please. People are going out of their way to look up links, et al. If you have a qualm about a fic recommended, please email me instead.

ETA4: Definition of a one-shot. Er. Mine's sort of vague. Basically a story without chapters that doesn't take all night to read. But I read fast, so Helen's Close Enough is still a one-shot, though it's fairly long.

I've got a percy/lucius story which also qualifies as S&M - Price of Wisdom.

Yep. You are. And yes, I love Price of Wisdom.

Hmm. You did a Percy Exhibitionism piece, too...

When I wrote down my kink recs, every single one of them included Percy. So I figured, er, I'd better open this up to the public. :p

Lust Over Pendle made the cut as the classic Draco/Neville fic, in the novel-length category.

What would you recommend as a very good one-shot that would hook people into reading more Draco/Neville?

Draco/Neville

Well, IMO [livejournal.com profile] ajhalluk epitomizes Draco/Neville. She's got a few short stories in the LoPiverse, and I wonder if any of them might be sufficiently standalone. Here's a list somebody compiled of all her LoPiverse fic. Your best bet is probably Not A Whisper, which portrays a turning point in their relationship (don't really want to say more for fear of spoiling it).
I'm also fond of Untitled: Draco & Neville become partners. Come to think of it, the first chapter of LoP is somewhat standalone, though it doesn't actually feature Draco or Neville, just Narcissa and Gran...

Let me know (by replying to this post; I get comment notifications) if any of these will do. Otherwise I'll try to think of others.

There's a Snape/Draco story that moght work called the Lack of Morals Arc by Kat and Tzigane. It's very good and frighteningly long. However, it is also a Snape/Lucius, so I'm no sure it would count for the kit (it covers a long time period and progresses from one pairing to the other).

As far as Lucius/Percy, I'm resoundingly reccing your story An Elegant Man, because damn, woman. Just...damn.

For threesome (and also Remus/Sirius), [livejournal.com profile] maeglinyedi's Of Wolf And Man (http://forever-rebel.net/maeglinyedi/ofwolfandman.html). (of course, it's also bestiality...*snickers*)

The best Harry/Lucius I ever read, though not quite novel-length, is very long: A World Not So Black Nor White (http://www.amanuensis1.com/aworldnotsoblack.html) by [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1. But I know you have that one already, for later...*shrugs* Just thought I'd mention it again.

For magical bonds, there's [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1's Rituals and Traditions (http://www.amanuensis1.com/ritualsandtraditions.html), which is humorous and involves sex magic used in the breaking of bonds, or there's [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl's Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent (http://home.earthlink.net/~cluegirl/Let%20All%20Mortal%20Flesh%20Keep%20Silent.htm), which is much darker and focuses on the strength of one bond versus another.

And the only novel-length Snape/Draco I can think of is the one I'm writing right now, Inheritance, which will probably be done by the time you start looking for WIPs. *laughs* Bad timing on my part, I guess. But I'll let you know when it's done, just in case you feel like adding it to the list. (It'll probably wrap up around 200K words.)

Hope that helps!

As far as Lucius/Percy, I'm resoundingly reccing your story An Elegant Man, because damn, woman. Just...damn.

*Smiles* I have a real bias towards that particular story right now. I'm in love with the pairing, and with Lucius' love handles. ;)

I'm debating Rituals and Traditions versus Night Over Azkeban for a category called Sex Magic. I'm leaning towards R&T, though there's a desperation and tension to Night that's really representative of the kink.

For magical bonds... well, Purification is heading in that direction, but we're not there yet. All I know is Cybele's [french name that's impossible to spell]. Cluegirl's sounds perfect. What's the pairing?

A World Not So Black And White I will need to re-read and see if I rec it as opposed to another Harry/Lucius. I wish Switchknife hadn't abandoned her If Thine Enemy. It would have been perfect.

What's the trio in Of Wolf and Man?

Let me know when your Snape/Draco is done, and also [livejournal.com profile] hp_femme would be very interested.

Here's one that involves both Voyeurism & Threesome: Mischief Manifest (http://www.livejournal.com/users/iscaris/65943.html) by [livejournal.com profile] iscaris. Harry/Fred/George, Remus. Rated NC-17.

And this has bondage and threesome: Taking It (http://www.livejournal.com/community/pornish_pixies/77330.html#cutid1) by [livejournal.com profile] nicolae. It's pretty hardcore, so I don't know if you'd want it in the starter kit.

And for a Lupin/Snape novel-length... does a series count? The author of this one has written several really long fics that all string together one plot. It's really quite good, and was my first Remus/Severus fic (set of fics, though I read them in one go, so it felt like one novel-length). Here are the links:

A Short Measure (http://chance.slashcity.net/masterandthewolf/stories/measure.html) | Nightmare (http://www.livejournal.com/users/musigneus/835.html#cutid1) | A Cure for Dreams (http://chance.slashcity.net/masterandthewolf/stories/acurefordreams.html) | Walk the Black Path (http://chance.slashcity.net/masterandthewolf/stories/walktheblackpath.html) | The Tilting Earth (http://chance.slashcity.net/masterandthewolf/stories/thetiltingearth.html) | Water Therapy (http://www.livejournal.com/users/musigneus/2782.html#cutid1) by [livejournal.com profile] musigneus. Mm how about Lessons Learned (http://www.thebattlefields.org/potterfic1.htm#LL) by Tzigane and Kat Reitz. It's a long Snape/Draco discipline fic. Pretty much plotless but very hot if spanking's your kink.

*snaps fingers* Spanking! How could I have forgotten? Thank you! I've heard a lot about Tzigane and Kat in searching for recs....

Longer Harry/Lucius that's not what you expect? Try Erin LaCroix's "Every Flavour Beans" here:

http://inkstain.slashcity.net/isf/archive/24/everyflavour.html

It's not classic fanon Lucius at all, neither is it the usual way of pairing the two. It has flaws. But. I think it has a lot going for it quite apart from the pairing, particularly in sheer originality. However, if you want something representative of the fandom's usual take on H/L, that would be slavefic, which this isn't.

You can cover Voyeurism, Bondage and S&M in what is (I think) the most classic S&M fic ever: Seeker's "Disciplinary Authority", here:

http://www.restrictedsection.org/load/story.shtml?/1/disciplinaryauthority.html

And, somewhere in the bondage/kink/threesome area, I *really* *passionately* recommend "Throned on Highest Bliss" by snaples, here:

http://www.restrictedsection.org/load/story.shtml?/4/thronedon.html

Orgy. Breathplay. Bondage. Snape/Harry/Draco/Blaise. And all infused with a sense of the underlying power in relationships, quite apart from the smut. It recalls an NC17 Two Worlds and In Between, for me. (Its prequel, "The Rapture", is also at rs).

Also, incest = Draco/Lucius, as far as I'm concerned, and the one that most hits my buttons is Rushlight's "Passage to Eden" here:

http://www.restrictedsection.org/load/story.shtml?/8/passageto.html

That's a very Malfoy-centric lot, I know!

If you want more het, did you not write a Cho/Harry piece ages ago where they have a uncomfortable first-time sex, then he gets all laddish and "been there, done that", bragging to his mates? I loved that one. If I'm right and it's yours, could you remind us where that is so we can rec it? Also, did someone rec Maya's amazing McGonagall/Flitwick under het?

I'm done now!

Here are some that come to mind (especially since us not-so-new folks are using this as a place to glean new reading material!)

Threesome: Stellamira's "Cruel Intentions" (Oliver Wood/ George and Fred Weasley
http://adultfan.nexcess.net/aff/story.php?no=912
About the third story I ever read in fandom. Caught me unaware, then I couldn't forget it.

Incest: Isis' "Ouroboros" (Lucius/Draco/Severus Snape)
http://isis.arithmancy.net/ouroboros.htm
Or you could switch this one with the threesomes. This incest is easier to take, because of the plot device that makes it seem...not so incestuous.

Bondage: FearlessDiva's "Free" (which could also be a threesome)
http://www.silververse.net/hp/free.htm

A great resource for thematically sorted fics is [livejournal.com profile] painless_j, and her master list is here:
http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=painless_j&keyword=HP+fic+thematic+master+lists&filter=all

I mean, if you wanted to add "coming untouched" as a fic rec subject, she's the one to check out first! She has a "bonding" list.

[livejournal.com profile] macteague is an amazing Percy/Oliver writer. Here's (http://teague.0catch.com/fiction.html) her website. I especially recommend Swimming, Willful Blindness, Three Wishes and Closer.

Practical Magics, Isolde. :D Do you have other suggestions?

I'm also missing the Snape/Dumbledore.

A rec for Percy/Oliver:

In this World of Strangers by AjesBlue. It's a three part series. :)

http://www.astronomytower.org/authorLinks/AjesBlue/In_This_World_Of_Strangers/

I'm surprised nobody had mentioned it earlier, as it is a brilliant story.

I tried to restrain myself, but even though there are some older Percy/Oliver fics that I couldn't find online anymore, I realize this is quite a few recs. But I figure since you are selecting from the recs I might as well give you a range of fics to read. Many of these authors have other P/O fics.

First of all HUMOR! Perhaps you don't need more, but it's such an important part of fanfic for me I have to rec some:
- Cinder-Percy by [livejournal.com profile] macteague
- Out of the closet, into the frying pan. by Cairnsy

Other:
- After the Game by [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge
- Good Conversation by [livejournal.com profile] chash
- Sixth by [livejournal.com profile] ztrin (also Percy/Penelope)
- Falling by [livejournal.com profile] mireille719
- Fly Down Long Fields to Me by [livejournal.com profile] zortified
- Let Me Count the Ways by spintwin
- Playing the Game and End Game by Cairnsy

I'm not quite sure what a one-shot is (just a short fic?) but these might qualify:
- What does a dog dream when he dreams? by [livejournal.com profile] memorycharm
- Inadequate, Immobile by [livejournal.com profile] nattish
- Wherever You Will Go by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool
- Home is a Feeling by [livejournal.com profile] jjtaylor

Since almost no one else has done so, here are a few really great Remus/Sirius one-shots, all of which I'd recommend without hesitation to newbies.

Seven Things That Happened at Hogwarts on Valentines Day (Or Maybe They Didn't (http://glitterati.dejabu.org/writing/hp/seventhings.html)) by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock (aka [livejournal.com profile] lupercali)

Redeeming Time (http://www.vidweasels.com/Minx/Door_to_River/Door_index.html) by [livejournal.com profile] miraminx, which is technically more James/Lily, but also Remus/Sirius

So You Want To Transfigure Yourself A Rock Band (http://www.sprunkers.com/glitter.htm) by [livejournal.com profile] mousapelli

Who Wrote the Book (http://sekaiseifuku.net/whowrote.txt) by Canis M.

All Souls Day (http://www.somedistantgalaxy.com/veela/allsouls.html) by [livejournal.com profile] phineasjones - I've hooked a few people with this one. *G*
