How many weeks till I go back to school?

Got snapped at for putting something where I was told to put it by the boss. Got teased for picking up a cookie in the lunchroom (mildly). Set up a meeting on the day the boss wanted it - then she nixed it, she can't be there.

Oh. God. I remember now why I'm going back to school.

I hate secretarial work. And after 15 years, I should know by now.

Can it be? Another administrative assistant? Be still my heart. I thought I was one of the few. I'm temping too since I'm between jobs. And since my last full time position was such a nightmare it might be a while before I'll stick my toe back in *that* water. ;-)

The few.

The proud.
(Or at least desperately propping the shreds of our dignity up with reviews...)

The underemployed.

Yep. I'm one of the dime-a-dozen masses.

And my last permanent job was enough to make a lawyer salivate.

oh, I am also an Administrative Assistant. More like Baby Sitter, really. Also temping for now.

Icarus, I feel your pain.

Of course we're all temping. As soon as the economy gets bad, companies dump half their admins, so you're either a) doing the work of two, but thankful you have a job, or b) scratching for work. The last recession (funnily enough during the other Bush's tenure) I was in group a). This time....

The moment the economy picks up, watch the admin jobs appear like flowers in the spring.

oh, indeed!

Around here, things are starting to pick up. I can be picky about who I interview with, which is nice. I've received calls from pretty much everyone I've sent my resume to, where a year ago I was lucky to get a call back from a temping agency.

I am on a fairly decent (if boring) long term assigment right now. Part of what I was doing a few weeks ago was screening resumes for the perm person who will take my place (and I do NOT want to be that person). The resume you posted a day or two ago is better than about 99% of the resumes I've been seeing and I have seen a ton.

That is very heartening. Seattle's still pretty bad.

*sighs with relief* I'd like to do something other than secretarial work, but it's good to know I have it.
