Big blow up last night with the [livejournal.com profile] wildernessguru, just pressure build up and the strain of banking the next nine months of my life on a gamble that the US Gov't will be as generous as it was last year. I don't like dangling.

It's been a bit of a come down to be doing temp work again. I love school. One of my teachers called me "insatiably curious" on my portfolio, and that's true. Admin work isn't nearly as challenging or interesting.

WG wanted to cheer me up, so he put in a movie he'd picked up though he wasn't sure what it was about: The House of Sand and Fog.

Yeah. That was cheery. But it did have a really strong moral lesson about desperation and allowing your circumstances make your choices for you, and I decided to change my attitude about things. Because, hey, I didn't want to end up like the end of that movie.

It could happen.

That movie was a long series of things can't get much worst but it does any way. Not a movie for people you want or need happy ends. I rented it a few weeks ago and the strange thing about that night was outside in the empty field by the house there were like fifty bats flying around.

Never, ever let circumstances dictate what you must, and must not do.
You are a fan of a book where one of the snarky, mean-spirited, ungenerous people made a decision about his life when he could been on the winning yet evil side.
More than that, you just happen to know a person who is from Brooklyn, who was told by her family that she could not go to regular college becaus ethey did not have the money, and if she did, she was on her own. And guess what? She did it, and paid off those student loans besides. (Wonder who that is...)
So, kiddo. You are going to temp. And you are going to take out those fucking loans if need be. And you will complete your degree.
Don't make me come up there...(well, only if you want to.)

I just watched The House of Sand And God last night.

I cried.

We're on the same wavelength.

It got me, too, and I'm hard-pressed to think of a movie that ever has. Maybe The Killing Fields.

I hear you. I've made a game of underutilization, though, which can pass the time. I try to do everything as fast and as perfectly as possible. For example, my boss said the other day "Could you please find the number of that car company, you know, the one that has those black Lincolns and they go to the airport and stuff -- you know which one I'm talking about?" By the time she had finished speaking I had already looked up the company on Google and responded "The name of the company is Metro Cars and the 800 number is ___ shall I dial it for you?"

Tell WG "hi" from me.
