I'm being bad.
Terrible even.
I've reached that point of no return where I just don't give a damn about this job. I'm smiling behind my desk. Nine days left. Next week's going to be hell. I found out yesterday that the Tank who tore me a new one in front of the entire office (twice) added insult to injury by slandering me to Wuss!Boss.
I'm on the internet. And there is a remote, fading work ethic that cares. Sort of like a dust-mote in the distance.
BWA-HA-hahahahahahaha goodbye!

If you want to be quasi-productive (or at least helpful), would you mind filling me in on the reason why my friend who went to a Buddhist exorcism (as a guest/she filmed the thing) last month has to shave her head by October? She says it has something to do with karma, but I'm curious and want to know more.

Date: 2004-09-14 10:45 am (UTC)One: she is taking some form of ordination vow.
Two: offering one's hair is the most auspicious thing one can do, and is highly meritorious in terms of karma. It's such a tremendous act of renunciation. Very powerful and spiritually cleansing.
There are literally thousands of various types of rituals for expelling negativity and whatnot. Each and every sect and subsect has a different ones, and it's very regional. Also it depends on the particular Lama who created the practice and what century it was created. So I'm not sure if we're talking about a wrathful Sengdongma ritual, or something as simple as a fire puja.
It's possible that she was allowed to film something that is fairly secret, and obstacles arose. Fairly common when someone views something they don't have the teachings and practice experience to understand. I've seen it happen with wrathful teachings, even with Tibetan Buddhists, because the teachings were over the heads of some of the people in the room.
In that case, in order to clear those away she would need to accumulate a lot of merit. Offering ones hair is one of the quickest and easiest ways for a non-Buddhist to do that. Or she could accumulate a lot of mantras.
