Snape Manor

Woah. I've just spent the last [insert ridiculous number because I lost count] of hours talking to [livejournal.com profile] cordelia_v about Snape Manor. She now knows the entire plot as it stands now, and why I've been struggling with it.

Do I want to write this story? Even after two years it continues to haunt me.

Am I the last person to read In Between Days by [livejournal.com profile] atrata? Because if I'm not and you haven't, you must read this, as it's the finest, most uncompromisingly relentless characterisation of Snape I've ever read. Snape/Harry, NC-17.

For the time being, I'm off to write Percy/Snape. Or perhaps Jack/Daniel, I'm not sure which, but I'm writing something today.

*beams* Thanks muchly!

(And apparently I am writing you some Snape/Percy (http://www.livejournal.com/users/aubrem/34163.html?thread=366963#t366963). Must find my Percy muse...)

Damned if I know whether you want to write it. I'd love to read it, but I have no investment in any particular outcome.

By way of inspiring you (and a pathetically transparent attempt to pull you back into hp a bit more), I signed up for an offer by [livejournal.com profile] atrata via [livejournal.com profile] aubrem for Atra to write a Percy/Snape ficlet for you. She might take a long time to do it, however. But I think you'd like her take on it.

I could actually become rather fond of Percy/Snape, to be honest.

omg, have visions of Atra/Snape, Icarus/Percy collaborative effort. I tell you, the subs don't usually do much for me but Icarus' Percy ....

Honestly, I was just about to close this window and go back to my chapter, but you stopped me dead in my tracks, [livejournal.com profile] aubrem.

the subs don't usually do much for me but Icarus' Percy ....

I thought that was just me. Normally, I'd always identify with the dom role, but with her Percy . . . well, he's such a self-righteous, precise personality that . . .well, it's exciting to see him brought to a greater degree of self-understanding. He'd make a great historian. :-) Really. He's anal retentive detail-oriented, organized, and compulsive. And deluded about life's true priorities just enough, so that his ambitions could be skewed enough so that he thought writing history was an actual accomplishment.

So, just visualizing an Atra/Snape and Icarus/Percy collaboration makes me faint with delight. And to make this little fantasy even better, let's throw in [livejournal.com profile] aubrem and Cordelia as betas, eh?

*is going to at least write the rural housewives' league bit now, before she goes to hell*

[identity profile] aubrem.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I almost always identify with the sub ... would you have guessed that?

(it's because I identify with the sub that I enjoy the dom character)

He'd make a great historian. :-) Really.

Percy's voice emerges from a tower of scrolls. "But of course! You must understand -- what remains after we're all gone? Our history. Ministers come and go, but I write how they will be celebrated or derided for posterity's sake. As the great Aubric Snozbottle said, 'our future comes from our past.'"

Good God, woman. You are the one who writes IBD Snape, after all. And apparently, you lie to yourself about as much as he does. :-)

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooo. I would be honored.

That would... that would work, actually. The results would be scary though.

The last collaboration I did was Fanning The Flames (Lucius/Percy, never polished up really, beta became too busy). [livejournal.com profile] sparrohawk played Lucius. The results were so intense we could barely speak to each other without blushing for... months.

Icarus

[identity profile] atrata.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm... intriguing. You really think it would work? I'm not hugely confident of my Severus POV.

I'm spoken for for the next few weeks, but maybe after that we could try to figure something out.

[And I totally know what you mean about intense results. Did you see the public shagging the comment porn (http://atrata.slashcity.org/hp/thesession.html) [livejournal.com profile] switchknife and I just posted? And that's not even the actual collaboration. That just-- happened. *grin*]

[identity profile] atrata.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I dunno how that prompt is going to be a drabble. And I really do love Snape/Percy. I keep meaning to write more, but I'm pretty fickle about ... well. Everything. *g*

[I have written one story (http://www.livejournal.com/community/pornish_pixies/238602.html), but I don't know if you saw it. I think you weren't around much when it was posted. 'You' being Cordelia, since I know Icarus saw it.]

[personal profile] cordelia_v 2005-07-04 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I did see it, but that was when I was on medical leave, I think. And in those days, I was too foolish to appreciate Percy properly. I've bookmarked it now, so I can go savor it again once this damned chapter is finished.

And nothing you ever write is a drabble, dear. That's why I edited it to say "ficlet."

[identity profile] atrata.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I wrote drabbles once! I did!

... just because I wrote nine of them and called it a story doesn't negate the fact that drabbles exist!

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha. Not only has Cordelia seen it, she rec'd it to me. But as it's Percy, of course I'd read it first. :D

Atrata, I truly am a fan. Usually, and I mean no arrogance when I say this, I read a fanfic and I can see myself being able to pull this off. Not that I'd ever have the writer's unique creative idea, but were the idea to occur to me, I know I could write it. In most cases, my beta reader light is on and there are few things I'd have done differently.

Not so with In Between Days. I could never have pulled off that story. And there is nothing I would change. My hat's off to you.

Icarus

[identity profile] atrata.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Gah. I don't even know what to say to something like that that's not blushy and stammery and flaily. Thank you. That story was such a huge part of me, and it's really immensely gratifying that people like it so much.

*goes back to flailing quietly in the corner*

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Transparent, yet effective! *laughs*

It's all your fault that I woke up this morning to visions of Torvald telling Snape how he watched the molecules change in a bottle of Scotch over the years, but couldn't touch it.

This story is like slashing a knife across your palm.

Transparent, yet effective!

That's usually one of my most effective strategies, in terms of bending authors and readers to my will, in fact.

You'll like that essay on fanfic reviewing and sex, when I get to it.

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
And repetition works with... me... too.... *pauses as the imagery gets more and more sexual*

I think I'd better stop while I'm behind.

Maybe you'll feel more inspired after reading Book 6?

[identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's less a matter of inspiration -- any story that hangs on for years is desperate to be written -- and more a matter of... it's a hard story to bring myself to write.

But yes, I am looking forward to Book Six. Would it be too much ask to have Percy suddenly leave the Ministry in a quiet flurry of scandal as the twins laugh themselves sick at rumours of his being caught with a man -- with Percy refusing to leave his room at the Burrow (while his worried mother brings him trays of food and tells him through the door don't listen to what people say, she knows it's not true)?

Pretty please? It's not like this Pope is going to cut Rowling any slack anyways.

G'luck with Snape Manor.

AND OMG I ADORE In Between Days. Really. Whoa.

It's impressive, isn't it? I was truly blown away.
