Snape Manor
Woah. I've just spent the last [insert ridiculous number because I lost count] of hours talking to
cordelia_v about Snape Manor. She now knows the entire plot as it stands now, and why I've been struggling with it.
Do I want to write this story? Even after two years it continues to haunt me.
Am I the last person to read In Between Days by
atrata? Because if I'm not and you haven't, you must read this, as it's the finest, most uncompromisingly relentless characterisation of Snape I've ever read. Snape/Harry, NC-17.
For the time being, I'm off to write Percy/Snape. Or perhaps Jack/Daniel, I'm not sure which, but I'm writing something today.

(And apparently I am writing you some Snape/Percy (http://www.livejournal.com/users/aubrem/34163.html?thread=366963#t366963). Must find my Percy muse...)

By way of inspiring you (and a pathetically transparent attempt to pull you back into hp a bit more), I signed up for an offer by
I could actually become rather fond of Percy/Snape, to be honest.

the subs don't usually do much for me but Icarus' Percy ....
I thought that was just me. Normally, I'd always identify with the dom role, but with her Percy . . . well, he's such a self-righteous, precise personality that . . .well, it's exciting to see him brought to a greater degree of self-understanding. He'd make a great historian. :-) Really. He's
anal retentivedetail-oriented, organized, and compulsive. And deluded about life's true priorities just enough, so that his ambitions could be skewed enough so that he thought writing history was an actual accomplishment. So, just visualizing an Atra/Snape and Icarus/Percy collaboration makes me faint with delight. And to make this little fantasy even better, let's throw in

Percy's voice emerges from a tower of scrolls. "But of course! You must understand -- what remains after we're all gone? Our history. Ministers come and go, but I write how they will be celebrated or derided for posterity's sake. As the great Aubric Snozbottle said, 'our future comes from our past.'"

Good God, woman. You are the one who writes IBD Snape, after all. And apparently, you lie to yourself about as much as he does. :-)

That would... that would work, actually. The results would be scary though.
The last collaboration I did was Fanning The Flames (Lucius/Percy, never polished up really, beta became too busy).

I'm spoken for for the next few weeks, but maybe after that we could try to figure something out.

[I have written one story (http://www.livejournal.com/community/pornish_pixies/238602.html), but I don't know if you saw it. I think you weren't around much when it was posted. 'You' being Cordelia, since I know Icarus saw it.]

And nothing you ever write is a drabble, dear. That's why I edited it to say "ficlet."

... just because I wrote nine of them and called it a story doesn't negate the fact that drabbles exist!

Atrata, I truly am a fan. Usually, and I mean no arrogance when I say this, I read a fanfic and I can see myself being able to pull this off. Not that I'd ever have the writer's unique creative idea, but were the idea to occur to me, I know I could write it. In most cases, my beta reader light is on and there are few things I'd have done differently.
Not so with In Between Days. I could never have pulled off that story. And there is nothing I would change. My hat's off to you.

It's all your fault that I woke up this morning to visions of Torvald telling Snape how he watched the molecules change in a bottle of Scotch over the years, but couldn't touch it.
This story is like slashing a knife across your palm.

That's usually one of my most effective strategies, in terms of bending authors and readers to my will, in fact.
You'll like that essay on fanfic reviewing and sex, when I get to it.

I think I'd better stop while I'm behind.

But yes, I am looking forward to Book Six. Would it be too much ask to have Percy suddenly leave the Ministry in a quiet flurry of scandal as the twins laugh themselves sick at rumours of his being caught with a man -- with Percy refusing to leave his room at the Burrow (while his worried mother brings him trays of food and tells him through the door don't listen to what people say, she knows it's not true)?
Pretty please? It's not like this Pope is going to cut Rowling any slack anyways.
