The good news and the stupid news: Bella's safe, but Bush's FEMA isn't done yet

A calm reporting on the facts. I have wondered from the get-go how we're going to take care of 500,000 people who've been wiped out. Who and how are we going to pay for this? What restructurings need to happen in the Bush administration to take care of all these people?

First the good news: Bella_the_dark is okay and describes all the aid and support pouring into her community.

Now the stupid news: FEMA is requiring Katrina victims with no access to a phone to call to request aid. Then they don't get aid, rather, people with no current fixed address are mailed a packet with a form. Where is it mailed? Good question.

Here's the real story. We're about to get a tour of how our government treats the destitute.

I don't know that we ever were efficient, but this is criminal negligence on the part of the government and President Bush. I hold him personally responsible for this.

It's always good to hear some good news in such bad times.
Here you just get the horror stories on TV. And I'm glad to hear that there are people who are getting along.

I don't know what to say about the behaviour of your government or this offensive comment from Barbara Bush. I just can stare and think that this has to be a bad dream. They show no respact at all to the people there and for me it's incomprehensible how someone in such a public position can be like this. They're digging their own grave.

My office came to a screeching halt this morning as we discussed the situation down there. People are very well-informed and universally appalled. There's talk of people taking vacation to go down there and help.

We work with the press a lot and there was an interesting observation that the press is just fed up. The calm facades are cracking as they are just devastated by what they're seeing down there.

I think it's really great that so many people want to help. But I heard that the military/police stops them before they even can do anything.

It's quite interesting how the press reacts. Somewhere I've read that even reporters from 'Bush-loyal' stations and papers are getting really upset. What do they call this nowadays? Katrinagate? *snorts*

I have to admit that I am surprised. When her husband was in the White House a friend of mine was an NBC sound tech covering the White House, and I got regular reports on how the various politicians behaved off-camera. Everything I heard about Barbara was that she was very "real."

So I suppose those are her very "real" feelings. *disgusted*

Nice to see her admitting that "underprivileged" people live in the US. But tomorrow she if you asked her she'd probably say there was no such thing.

Oh my god. How delusioned by wealth does one have to be to get their head crammed that far up their arse? I can't believe she actually said that since they were underprivileged so they are actually doing well. By who's standards? As if she has ever had a clue as to what their life is/was like. There was a reason why George made Danny boy keep his mouth shut many years ago... he must have guessed Babs was writing Dan's speeches.

And this mailing claim forms to victims? Did they happen to notice that US mail has been indefinitely halted due to the destruction. Did they happen to notice that a HURRICANE blew in just over a week ago, submerging a rather large chunk of those states? I'd be an ass just to call and have it returned to them as undeliverable, just to watch them scratch their heads. I think the W is really showing his lame duck status by being a lame ass.
