I don't know if I have anything that would qualify as smarm, but if I do, I wouldn't be offended if you want to rec it as smarm. (Personally, I just like having the recs.)
Thanks. I'll check out that site, too. Right now I'm just trying to make lists of fics that I like, so this will be helpful. :-) Also thanks for letting me know you wouldn't mind if I classified anything of yours as smarm. Stories can be recced in more than one category, as you probably know, though I'm trying not to rec the same story twice myself. I'm afraid I'll make that mistake so I'm keeping a list of my own recs. I already recced a story that someone else had recced recently--and I actually *commented* on it, too. DUH.
Yeah, someone squeezed in one last rec last month and took one of my recs! :( And it's in the same category, so I can't rec it anyway.
I really only paid attention to my category for recs, but I'm well aware that many of my bookmarks have come off stargateficrec. Okay, so many of my Jack/Daniel bookmarks have come from other places, but anything not Jack/Daniel came from there. ;)
I book-mark everything I like, then toss it onto my rec-list once I hit 10-20. I find that if I wait too long to update, it's a real chore to write reviews for 35 stories at a crack.
Yeah, some flexibility on double-recs is good, just to keep people from having to read every single fic that's ever been recommended, but it does go counter to the whole purpose of recs: pointing people to new stories.
I rarely bookmark stories because I'd end up with too many bookmarks that I don't even want to attempt to put into folders or categorize in some way. I never read fics in order to rec them--just for my own pleasure. I usually pasted anything and everything into Word so that I could reformat it to a font that I prefer (ariel) and get away from any colors or backgrounds or anything that makes the text difficult to read (too small, dark backgrounds, etc.). If I liked the fics, I saved them with the author's name first, then the title of the story second. I never even saved website URLs because I never thought I'd have a need to go back to them.
When we rec stories, we're only asked to check that it hasn't been recced in the category we are reccing and that's it. I usually check my own list to make sure *I* haven't already recced it and then I check my categories and sometimes also any other categories that I think are likely.
