Oh wow. BBC News: Gay marriage is about to be legal in the UK.

No time to write as I'm supposed to be doing homework instead of doing what I'm actually doing, which is reading Stargate Atlantis fic, so I'll just repost my celebratory SG-1 fic from when Canada legalized gay marriage (though it had far more implications for SGA than SG-1, and Harry Potter is more effected by this law than SG-1, but anyway)...

It used to be only NYC, but now there is a civil registry for the entire state of New York. Each state has its own rule, so it's more likely that there is some civil registry in the blue states than in the red states.

Hmm. Given how very blue Washington is, I wonder why there isn't one here.

Oh. Right. Washington as a state is swung by the overwhelmingly blue (and overwhelmingly large) population of Seattle. The rest of the (sparsely populated farm country) is overwhelmingly red. This creates a bizarre schizophrenia between the state and federal levels -- our senators are democrats. Our state officials, apportioned by region, are republicans.

Yeah, we'll never get a registry here. Not unless Idaho gets one.

Yes, Washington is a very strange state when it comes of politics, but then NYC is Democrat, NYS is Republican, and we vote Democrats in federal election. It's all so very confusing.
