More from the [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic virgin challenge. This is nice steamy PWP, and I like the idea of John keeping such an extraordinary secret.

At The Violet Hour by linaerys, NC-17, John/Rodney

John takes a poll. "What if you were changed into a woman? What would you do?"

I'm hungry for more of these.

"I hate group projects" revisited

Do any of you gamble? I'm taking bets.

The history:

- We had one initial group meeting.
- I postponed one Thursday meeting to Saturday (midterms, cancer in the family).
- She no-showed on Saturday due to an emergency (key locked in a theatre). I was left standing in the rain, though that was largely WG's fault. We postponed that meeting to Tuesday.
- Tuesday she asked if we could postpone to Thursday.
- I was 15 minutes late Thursday.

Received an email from her that she was "at the meeting place now and I can't wait any longer."

Trouble is, the email was an obvious fake sent three hours after the time she was claiming she was writing. Unbelievable. The date stamp is a field that will update to the time you sent it, you can't copy and paste a fake one into an email. One: the field will update; the time on her "4:50pm" email was 7:49pm. Two: not every email program uses the same type of date stamp; my gmail program doesn't even use that format.

I've lost all respect for her and her excuses. But we still have a presentation to do, and all I care about is that she comes through.

- She postponed our meeting to Tuesday.
- I sent her an email saying "yes, Tuesday, great" but we clearly have an administrative problem since we've both missed meetings, let's get together on class break Tuesday to work it out. Is the location a problem? In the interim, let's work on our presentations separately and paste them together later.
- Tuesday she was not in class. I got an email (in plenty of time before our meeting) saying that her personal life was a mess. She postponed to Thursday.

Here's the bet: Today's Thursday, but oh shit, she wasn't in class today. Our meeting is in half an hour.

So a show of hands.

Who thinks she'll be here?

Who thinks I'm wasting my time waiting?

Place your odds folks.

I bet she won't be there. I also bet she hasn't done a bit of work on her part of the project. Group projects do suck.

A cookie for you, too.

The lady gets a prize. Oh yeah, I've sitting half an hour... actually, because my class got out at 3:30 I've been waiting an hour and a half. But only waiting half an hour for her.

I also bet she hasn't done a bit of work on her part of the project.

Oh yes indeedy.

Glrgh. Just got the email.

I was just leaving to go to school to meet you. I am trouble getting my car to start...My boyfriend won't be home until 7, but then I can take his car or he can fix mine...I am not really a car person...I also am free all day tomorrow, untill 4pm. I know that you stick around extra time to wait until 4:30 so I feel terrible. Would it be possible to meet after 7 somewhere else? I could maybe come pick you up? Or we could meet somewhere easy for you to get to?

Tomorrow it is.

*raises hand* No show! Looks like you're going to have to do the whole thing yourself. *sigh* I've had projects like that.

You get a cookie!

Yep.

It's now 5pm, and I've waited half an hour for her. Time to go home.

The cancellation arrives...

(You don't know me; I pop in from time to time looking for more bits of "Out of Bounds", is all. :">)

There must be a point at which you let the professor-type person know that the "group"-ness of this group project is kind of down around nil, right?

Well, I did mention the fake datestamp on the email but he's very hands-off when it comes to groups. As far as he's concerned it all comes down to group relationships, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

*sighs*

Which only makes sense to me if learning about group dynamics is one of the stated goals of the course, and reporting on how well or how badly the group worked is part of the project.

Otherwise, that's a load of crap.

Yeah, I think you're now at the point where in your shoes I'd be devoting lots of effort to a thorough revamping of the group project, to the tune of "The project as assigned was impossible to complete due to the unavailability of my partner. However, in its place I've prepared this abstract titled Absenteeism: The Breakdown of Personal Responsibility in the Post-Millenial Workplace and Its Negative Effects on Productivity and Community. My partner was kind enough to provide a wide assortment of examples for use in this treatise."

I'm thinking of discussing the impact of absentee voters on the democratic process. Because I really am seeing how when no one shows up, the people who do just shrug and do whatever the hell they want.

I'd be lying if I said I'm the most punctual person in the world or very punctual at all but this is...

Hey, late is one thing. I'll wait, but really shifting the blame and lying to me puts her on my "irritant" list.

When things go that far... you send the info through e-mail. Or you cut your losses, tell the professor and hand in a work of your own

Good luck, hope you'll get a decent grade out of this whole mess still!

Oh, I did send my entire outline to her on Tuesday with the blank spaces where I needed to know what she planned to do. I think she hadn't worked on it until today.
