I've been plagiarized.

Skinny Dipping has been ripped off and posted on Fanfiction.net.

My story, Skinny Dipping, Harry/Percy, was written in 2003. So far as I can tell Cedric17 didn't change a word.

The reason I'd never posted it at Fanfiction.net is that the story is NC-17, violates the TOU, and it even includes underaged sex. Harry is 14 and Percy is 18.

What an S.O.B.

Thank you to Miranda who brought this to my attention.

ETA: I bet they thought they could get away with this because it's a lesser-known story, having had less play because of the chan issue.

I did a abuse report. I know I would be all kinds of furious if I found something of mine, posted by someone who wasn't me.

I'm sorry I can't do anything more.

Thank you. I want the story taken down, yesterday. No. Two weeks ago.

They've had the story up since July 11th, though I'm glad to see that they don't have any reviews besides people pointing out that it's stolen. I wonder what other stories they've stolen under other names.

I should probably be more pissed off than I am, but I know how good ff.net is about pulling stories down. For once that's going to be a good thing.

I want this twit thrashed. >:D

Thank you. I'm so glad Miranda recognized it, so very glad.

I just don't understand. Is it so hard to write your own story?

Do they want to be super popular with minimal work? Do they expect to get that with Harry/Percy? *boggles*

I also submitted an abuse report. It should be off ff.net right quick. scumsucking slimebag.

I really don't understand the point of plagiarizing. You get comments, but there's no way anyone could delude himself into thinking he deserves them. So sorry this happened to you. :( I submitted a report as well, as the noisiest wheel gets the fastest attention. xD

I'm thinking they do it because they can.

And they hope that no one will recognize the story.

And they hope, for a little while, they'll get some praise for something they themselves can't produce.

They don't care that it's not theirs because all they want is the rewards of recognition.

This happened to [livejournal.com profile] loupnoir, too, with some of her more obscure Durmstrang fics.

It's always the obscure stuff that gets ripped off because they can get away with it a little longer. Like stealing from the back of the store instead of the front shelf.

Scumsucking bottom-dweller, no shit.

I've been waiting for this. I had feeling it was going to happen sooner or later, because so many of my friends have been plagiarized. I'm surprised it was Skinning Dipping of all things. But I've noticed that's what they pick: stories that are obscure enough they might just get away with it.

I wonder what else has been stolen.

What a dipshit. They didn't even change the title.

Thank you. I want to hammer this asshole.

You get comments, but there's no way anyone could delude himself into thinking he deserves them.

When I was in high school I knew someone who liked to lie. He'd lie to his friends and try to do it so convincingly that they couldn't tell. Then he'd laugh. He enjoyed it. It gave him a sense of power and superiority over the people he fooled.

I told one of my friend's mom that he had a fundamental problem with his ethics and that I thought he'd get in serious trouble one day, because he didn't care about right and wrong, not even where it concerned his friends. It wasn't three years later that he was in trouble with the police.

That's so... krh. I hate plagiarism. Especially when it hits someone I know. I haven't read the fic yet, but I'm going to when I get time.

Thank you.

I want that story taken down, now. Fanfiction.net has always been quick to delete stories for TOU violations, without a hearing, what's taking them so long, eh?

I kinda have a love-hate relationship with FF.net. There are some good fics... but then again, bad too.

Have you read any good Percy fics lately? :)

In this scarily positively nice mood I am in at the moment (poke me this weekend - should be around - and will explain it) while being angry on your behalf, I kind of feel sorry for the idiot who posted it. Quite sad to know that you are so terrible that you have to rip off somoene who writes so brilliantly (there see = some fangirling!). Just, its a loose loose scenario - this person has stuck the fic up there in a blatant call for feedback. If they get the feedback they require - it must be a bitter pill as its not even their work, and if they don't - well, imagine how pathetic you would feel if you're so unknown that you plagarise one of the best, and you STILL don't manange to get any attention!

Hope al is well with you sweetheart!

Whaddaya mean, lesser known story? I remeber that story distinctly, because of playfulness and use of pond slime!

And as for FF.net....Just bad!

I am disgusted on your behalf. It boggles the mind. What a loser jerkboy.

I sent a request to FFN as well requesting that they remove the story asap.

Sorry this happened to you but glad it was caught.

BTW, since when does a jerk who plagiarizes get a switch cut for them... so not fair :P

that's terribly sad (read: pathetic). i'm glad everyone's reporting them, and if they've taken this story you can bet that most (if not all) of their others are plagiarized as well.

i've never understood the point of plagiarizing, but i guess that's because i'm an english major, and it's been instilled in me not to. it goes against every fibre of my being to even consider it, and i remember being terrified of having to write essays in high school not because i didn't want to, but because i was pretty advanced for a high school kid then i came to university and no one else wrote like me so i worried that my professors would think i was stealing off of someone else. it helped, though, that we didn't actually have the internet until i was 17 or so. and, y'know, i credited every single source i ever used.

it just doesn't make sense to steal someone else's writing. it's sad that people do that because it shows they're either lazy or really just can't think on their own in the least, and i think that would be the worst thing to be labeled.
