Looking for music suggestions

Musical inspiration
I'm playing with the music for Out Of Bounds at the moment. I have some music for John's final freeskate, but I'm not entirely... settled... on it.
Any suggestions, oh music lovers? The music thus far is:
Rodney
- Stravinsky's Firebird Suite "Danse Infernale"
- Phantom of the Opera "Prima Donna"
- The Andrews Sisters "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"
- Styx "Mr. Roboto"
John
- Creedence Clearwater Revival "Mustang Sally," "Down on the Corner," "Bad Moon Rising"
- The Clash "The Guns Of Brixton"
- Theme from Platoon, a.k.a., "Adagio for Strings"
- Gavin Rossdale "Adrenaline"
Also...
- Ottmar Liebert "Tango Flamenco" (Rodney's idea, but John liked it)
- Theme from "Get Smart" (Rodney's idea, and John was amused)
- Mancini, Theme from James Bond (also Rodney's idea, and John loved it)
Radek (though not a skater)
- "One Night In Bangkok"
Rodney likes classics, 1940s, broadway show tunes, things with lots of melodrama. His secret guilty pleasure is 80s bubblegum pop from his teens.
John likes music with aggressive tension, instrumental music from movies he recognizes because they tell a story he knows, very heavy rock, and thoughtful country songs with with a blues undertone. His guilty pleasure is cheesy metal from the 80s, AC/DC, Black Sabbath.
They both have a sense of humor and appreciate things like the Ramones cover of the theme from "Spiderman."
ETA: Thank you all so much. I'm now concentrating on movie soundtracks (instrumental) for John.
What movies have some cool themes that you can think of? I have Last of the Mohicans, Memoires of a Geisha, Batman, and Batman Returns -- also Terminator 2.
In other news,
wildernessguru's cold has taken a turn for the nasty. I'm screwed. I have no idea how I can avoid catching this. Unfortunately, he's the clingy sort who wants to be close *hack, cough* and be comforted *cough, choke, wheeeze!* when he's not feeling well.
I'm sure I would have caught it anyway.

Date: 2007-01-16 12:13 am (UTC)I have noticed a trend towards more lyrics, but I'll have to check and see if those are only in the exhibition and Gala of Champions at the Olympics. There's definitely a preference towards instrumental pieces in any case.

Date: 2007-01-16 01:41 am (UTC)You can't use music with lyrics in competition, except for one of ice dancing's three dances. Your music can have wordless voices (like someone singing scales), but words are absolutely not allowed.
You can, of course, use music with lyrics for shows and exhibitions and stuff.
Okay, I'm back to lurking. ;-)

Date: 2007-01-15 10:57 pm (UTC)Joshua Bell - "Coitus Musicalis". It on the Red Violin soundtrack, and it's...um, well exactly what the title sounds like. It'd build to a very dramatic finish for him.
Johnny Lang - "Lie to Me". Okay, more country blues than bluesy country, but lots of tension and a good build in the end for some acrobatics.
NIN- "The Perfect Drug". Fast, metal-y, and has some 80's-esque drama to it.
So, um, yeah. Also, I went ice skating last week and so had "Out of Bounds" on the brain.

Hee! I just read Out Of Bounds cover to cover and can't wait for the next part. Of course, what wants to be written is all further along in the story. It's always like that, isn't it?

Date: 2007-01-15 11:19 pm (UTC)The '80s Batman soundtrack
Gypsy Romance - Ochi Chyornye -- unusual, but a lot of fun.
The opera piece from Fifth Element -- I think it's a techno version of Lucia di Lammermoor?
(And I just noticed I have four versions of the Toccata and Fugue in Dm)
If you don't care about lyrics, there's J. Geils Band's Angel is a Centerfold; any version of Son of a Preacher Man; anything by The Art of Noise (I love the stuff they did with Tom Jones, but they also did a version of the Dragnet theme)
I can give you any but the Batman (The folder is empty and I don't know why!)

Date: 2007-01-16 12:33 am (UTC)I have one version of Toccata and Fugue (personal favorite, definately one Rodney would use). Four versions? Color me impressed.
Centerfold wouldn't work, know that one well, but I definately am interested in The Art of Noise. They did the soundtrack to Tom Jones?
Um. Yeah, all but Centerfold, if you're willing and it's not too much trouble. To icarus.ancalion@gmail.com? If you don't have time, I can look for them, too.

Platoon is in, although for something else since it's too soft for the final skate. I'm looking at soundtracks to other war movies.

Date: 2007-01-16 01:31 am (UTC)Most of my music is probably in the wrong genre (or time period--is Out of Bounds supposed to be set "now"?) but let's have a look...
How about something from the Blues Brothers? I've got "Soul Man" and the soundtracks to both movies.
Another soundtrack: "Damn Yankees." For some reason I can see Rodney getting a kick out of "Those Were The Good Old Days," or there's always "Whatever Lola Wants" for the "sexiness" aspect.
If John were feeling very evil, he could spring Mancini's "Baby Elephant Walk" on Rodney (if Rodney does any more skating himself). Mancini also did the Pink Panther theme, though that might be repeating the Get Smart joke.
Hmm, I've got Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt," but I don't think that's a song you could really skate to. Pity, because it's an awesome song.
Hah, I've got "There She Goes" by The Las--does that count as bubblegum pop? What about Nena's "99 Red Luftballons?" (I only have the German version of that, sorry.)
Ooh, here's "Sinnerman" by Nina Simon--it's from the soundtrack to "The Thomas Crown Affair" and it's got an absolutely crazy rhythm line. Might be to quiet, though. Very bluesy.
Preservation Hall Jazz Band--I've got a bunch of stuff performed by them, but I'd have to look up some of the original artists. Might be something up Rodney's aisle, though--"My Blue Heaven," "Sister Kate," "Bill Baily," "A Good Man is Hard to Find," ::snorts:: "Georgia On My Mind"...
Oh god, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. ::is not even going there. No, not a bit.::
Hey, I've got a whole album of the Sex Pistols (dl'd it for my sister). Something John would be into?
And...that's it. I guess my musical tastes don't run in the right direction to be any help. ::shrugs::

Date: 2007-01-16 01:47 am (UTC)Out of Bounds takes place in the late 90s. Sort of. ;)
I have Sinnerman (personal favorite) but I used it for the Beg Me For It soundtrack.
I don't suppose you can send me that cover of Hurt? Just for me? *puppy dog eyes* I have Lim's vid to "Mercy Chair" and I was just blown away by the song.
I really want Lola for Rodney -- hee! I love the idea of Baby Elephant Walk.
Preservation Hall Jazz Band... now that sounds interesting. *goes hunting*

Date: 2007-01-16 04:56 am (UTC)Possibly one of the most underrated filmscore composers, and his music is a big must. He originally came to mind because of the whole Metallica symphony thing, but then I remembered 'Mr Holland's Opus', 'Band of Brothers', 'Robin Hood', 'X-Men' etc and, well, take your pick from them all.

Date: 2007-01-17 08:22 pm (UTC)Mission Impossible Theme - he'd need a longer version, but they exist.
Back to the Future Theme! *gg*
Indiana Jones
Star Wars Main Theme
Star Wars Imperial March (He could combine the two Star Wars themes in his programme.)
Paso Doble from Strictly Ballroom (He liked the Tango!)
Re: Some movie music
Date: 2007-01-18 01:13 am (UTC)You won't believe this. The theme music from Men In Black works. It's just... very John (especially if Rodney's sense of humor influences the program).
