Good luck to Brad at Google.
Aug. 6th, 2007 01:51 pmLearned from
copperbadge's LJ:
Brad Fitzpatrick, the founder of LJ, is leaving for Google.
Good move, Brad. Best of luck to you.
I'd say we'll miss you but that's been true for two years. And really true the last couple months. Do you think Six Apart will stop digging once they hit China?

Date: 2007-08-06 09:31 pm (UTC)This is what I found most interesting: But I know that he's moved into a corporate-development role -- which I think is Silicon Valley code for "trying to find someone to buy the company."
Ahhh.

Date: 2007-08-06 09:51 pm (UTC)Yeah, a friend of mine who is a stock broker has told me that they've given up on the 6A ISO which was much anticipated for some time.

Date: 2007-08-06 11:01 pm (UTC)Oh? Why did they give up on the 6A ISO? (Obviously a stock broker's issues wouldn't be the same as ours.)
I've elected to back my stuff onto GreatestJournal (http://www.greatestjournal.com/icarusancalion) for the time being. InsaneJournal has an f-list limit of 100, which ruins my use of LJ as a broadcast medium for new fics.

Date: 2007-08-06 11:09 pm (UTC)I do believe the 100 friends limit is only for free accounts. Besides I figure that's a nice round number. Mind you with the cheapness of a permanent account on IJ I'm tempted to go that way and get the full upgrade. Only time will tell.

Date: 2007-08-06 11:23 pm (UTC)I have stories I'm trying to get out there so I need to reach as many people as possible. InsaneJournal with its f-list limit is not an option as far as I'm concerned, and I have a feeling that other people with large, greedily collected flists ;) (

Date: 2007-08-06 11:32 pm (UTC)Actually I do believe that most if not all of those folks are over on IJ as well as GJ. They know folks will spread the word on fic being posted just as it happens now. *g*

I'm hanging out here, in hopes that a fannish option will materialize first.

As you say though a fannish option would be best. At the moment I believe IJ is the closest we'll get to that.

Still. There's probably a lot of internal stuff going on at 6A that's got him so disgusted that he's not sticking around to defend his baby. I forsee things getting worse now that he's not there as some sort of buffer between the asshats and their customers.

Date: 2007-08-06 10:58 pm (UTC)What I find interesting is the fact that Six Apart is apparently, at least suggested by this gossip columnist anyway, looking for a buyer.

He mentions that he has his stock, his two years are up, so he can do as he chooses. But what you say makes sense and fits the crazy mixed messages we're getting.

Date: 2007-08-06 11:01 pm (UTC)I'm in UI design, not a programmer, but have been approached a couple times by Google recruiters. I'm not in the Bay Area, so many of the benefits of being at HQ would be moot for me. So far, I haven't been interested, but nice to know about the corporate culture.

Date: 2007-08-07 02:12 am (UTC)Also, how hypocritical is it that Brad was happy to call on fannish folk when LJ needed propping up, and evidently doesn't want to know us now?
