I only went one place yesterday, and that was because I *had* to. The airport was insane around 11:30am. Of course, the aforementioned snowstorm probably had a great deal to do with that.
But you couldn't have paid me enough to get me near any retail. Nope. Even if the weather had been good.
And buying a tree three days before Christmas? Last time I looked that late, all the little lots were gone. Except one... which was unmanned and had a small pile of abandoned trees. Poor woobie trees.
Yeah, I've been bugging WG since last weekened for us to go out and get a tree but it's been foot-drag, foot-drag, foot-drag. He just didn't wanted to do it when he got home from work in the afternoon and I haven't wanted to get up at at 4am to drive him to work so I could take the car. Also, no way I'm picking out a tree without him. He's picky and I get razzed for, oh, a bare spot or some-such.
As it was, I was nervous about it, but there was no problem finding a tree.
I wanted a tree. In the past, I do all the decorating stuff on Thanksgiving weekend. But this year I both worked and moved that weekend. And I'm *still* up to my ears in boxes, leaving no place for a tree. :( I know where it'll go next year, though.
Being where you are, yeah, tree shopping's gotta be cake. It sucks here. No damn trees!
My daughter and I left early Saturday morning (9am) to return a gift we'd bought two weeks ago - she found out the anticipated recipient already received the same thing from someone else, and it couldn't be given to anyone else we know.
Our intentions were good: in and out, going early to beat the crowds. Needless to say, we got hooked in, bought scads more gifts, didn't get away from the shops until close to 2pm, having had a good time! Where we shopped (in a "plaza" with several stores but not a real mall, as well as in a shopping area on a nearby street) was not as crowded as I expected it to be on the Saturday before Christmas. And it was good to spend more time with my daughter.
All the gifts we bought (except for a tv/dvr/vcr for my 6 year old granddaughter, which was stored in another friend's home to avoid carrying it up my staircase) from two weeks ago and today, were left in my house. Later on, my daughter, with two teenage close friends, came by and set up a card table in the livingroom for wrapping the presents. They spent several hours at it and I enjoyed the background chitchat while I doggedly continued enjoying LiveJournal at my computer in an adjacent room! They left around midnight, and I'm back at it....
Congratulations on doing your shopping this weekend. Happy holidays to you and all those you love. Love, max
Heh. Get this: we were out buying a tree. Got one roughly twice the size we'd planned (but the little stubby ones just looked so sad and since we were buying late they were 20% off). Now I'm going to be decorating only the front 3/4s of the tree because I don't have enough ornaments for the whole thing. lol
It is quiet this year. I suspect online shopping has made the malls less crazy.
You know, I believe you're right - shopping on line is a lot easier and I know in the past I've bought both birthday and Xmas gifts that way. What with one thing and another, I didn't get around to doing that this year, so I ended up braving the shops. Our efforts two weeks ago were hair-raising, lots of crowds and lines at the register, but as I said, today was awfully quiet and not crowded at all. Only two people ahead of us at the register in KMart, for example.
I'm sure your tree will be lovely and cheerful. And I wish you and all those you love happy holidays and a joyful new year in 2008. Love, max
