Another drabble request, this is number seven of twenty (yes, they're going up -- people keep adding more) for [livejournal.com profile] ragnhildholm, Harry/Ron. This is my first attempt at a post OotP fic.

It Was All Right
by Icarus

The sun slowly settled beyond the outline of the Forbidden Forest. Harry leaned both elbows on Ron's shoulders and stared off into the distance, not really seeing the sunset, magnificent though it was. Ron shifted uncomfortably.

"You're getting heavy."

Harry leaned a little harder, wrinkling his nose in an impish grin.

"Harry..." Ron complained, "you're such a dick sometimes."

He relented, and nuzzled into Ron's hair and hummed in his ear, slightly off-key:

"Weasley is my king,
he can do most anything,
that's why Gryffindors all sing -
- Weasley is my king..."

Ron glowed, his chin dropped in embarrassment. "You're a dreadful singer, Harry. I think I hear Fang howling. No - wait - he's gone deaf."

Harry cuffed him, laughing. But he didn't draw away.

Ron eyed him cautiously, up and down, for a pregnant moment. If anyone caught them even sitting like this it was a good bet they'd hear about it. But there was an undefinable line they usually didn't cross. Usually. Just friends.

Still, lately Harry had taken to staring off in the distance, then becoming suddenly present and doing things... well. It was crazy. It was also hard to say no, who could say why? Because he was Harry Potter? Because he was his friend?

Warm arms slid around Ron's waist, causing Ron's pulse to race, and then Harry rested his chin on his shoulder. A puff of a sigh breathed across Ron's cheek.

It was all right.

I haven't seen you comment much, welcome, and - yay! I love it when people get back to me right away.

Lost in the magic of Harry Potter. Hmm. Interesting take. I've left this deliberately open to interpretation.

Sorry :) I try, but by the time I get to a post usually everything that can be said about something has already been said, lol.

I'm the dip who left that longish review on skyhawke, btw, for "A Moment of Sin."

I got it from this bit, actually, something about the way the words went together here.

It's not a complaint, just a welcome. :)

I love this story. And I can hardly believe we have so few Sev fans on this site that you have, so far, but one review here. Or perhaps everyone who would review has already reviewed this after reading it somewhere else. But not I, not yet.

I love this little bit of a night in a normal wizard's life--at least, he wants it to be that, but who he is seems to preclude it. And it is normal only to the point that man and wizard alike will go looking for someone to pay for sex when they feel driven to it. But all along the way, Sev keeps tripping over his own life, and his own personality: his paranoia, in how he searches out his intended one-night stand; his perfidy, in how he deals with the go between; his impassiveness, letting the go-between wander off in confusion (possibly headed into a bog) from a Dark spell he cast; then we have his perfectionism, in how he constructs his glamour to not be glamourous. Right down to the end, when he seals a magical contract with a kiss, and it's one of his own students: "Seventh year. Ravenclaw. Last class, every Wednesday." And Sev's personal integrity--and persnickety nature--impells him to show himself through his glamour, so no nuance of this contract is avoidable.

But I think the best thing about this story is that in the end, when Sev laughed, so did I. Only, I laughed because I knew the answer to his question about himself--how does he manage to get tangled into these things? Because that's Sev, and that's his life.

Thanks very much. :)

Exactly so. That's exactly why I laughed, too.

Every now and then a reviewer sums up a story better than the writer ever could. I should replace my summary with this.

Rather long summary, lol. Feel free to use any part of it that pleases you, though. I gave it to you, after all, for giving me such a wonderful feeling with your story.

You lucked out, anyway. [livejournal.com profile] gmth accused me of writing poetry for a review on her journal, lol.

Oh, forgot, the review [livejournal.com profile] gmth got was on the snape_potter journal. (No idea if there's a way to edit these comments after you post them.)
