WG and I have come to a truce on John's car in Out Of Bounds.
I thought I found John's car from Out Of Bounds.
The 1978 Chevy Caprice, which he bought in 1989, just after he graduated high school:
wildernessguru says, "No way does John drive that. No guy would drive that land yacht."
"Okay," I asked him, "So what does he drive?"
He suggested a Dodge Dart. I told him that John's car has to have a back seat, and the Dart's back seat is way too small. I pointed out that John has had this car forever. It spends most of the story in various states of disrepair. (Mostly the heat's broken. In Canada.) He said, "Whatever, no way would John drive that."
Sigh. It's not like John can afford a muscle car or anything sporty. I kept hunting.
After an evening spent cruising cars in the Lemon-ade Guide, I showed
wildernessguru the following. WG's cool with the 1980 Chevy Caprice Classic although John's obviously wouldn't be black (his is burgundy) or in mint condition like this one:

"More of a beater," he said, but he agreed with this choice.
I said, "You mean like this?"

"Yeah," he said.
We'll not tell him that's another photo of the original car, or that the only difference between the first and second car was the model year. *snickers*
Did you know about Joe Flanigan posing mostly nude for About Face? This is the first I'd heard of the project.
He looks both vulnerable, uncomfortable, and intense. Off-balance. It's a very interesting photo for more reasons than the obvious.

Date: 2008-03-30 01:38 am (UTC)I would make the studio empty. Very spartan. Maybe a little bit cool. I would have a couple of assistants so that the subject felt a little outnumbered, and I would make sure they didn't have anything familiar with them. No friends. No family, wives, whatever.
I might make them wait a bit before they're let in, increasing their nervousness (I'd practice this with models for a while till I got the timing right). Then I'd have them strip and not even wear underwear they're used to.
I'd put the place where they sit in the middle of a bare open room. Circle them so they felt a little hunted, standing dressed while they're nude. Probably have at least one person out of sight behind them so they can't keep their eyes on everyone.
Then I'd use my voice to keep the subject riveted on me (the assistants aren't allowed to speak a whisper). I'd gauge carefully whether I'd be reassuring, supply compliments, or how I'd settle them enough for a good photo.
Check it out. All of those men have the same trapped "what the hell is going on here?" look.

Date: 2008-03-30 01:42 am (UTC)I have no doubt you'd do this. & ;-) But honestly, of course I can see the appeal of it--an artist going for something that strips away the outer layers of easy confidence and male charm that these celebrities would have.

Date: 2008-03-30 02:31 am (UTC)One of my nieces was a model (Ford agency) and she said that you had to get used to being stripped naked while clothes were being changed and not be bothered if you were the only one naked in a room of people...
I don't expect that JF has/had that kind of experience hence his ~real~ and ~almost haunted~ look...
Very cool project... thanks for the heads up!

It makes this shot of his face, his reaction much more genuine. I love that.
