It's [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match reveal day --

Title: Bacchanalian Circuit (Away Team) [NC-17]
Prompt: Run the gauntlet
Pairing(s): McKay/Sheppard
Warnings: Humorous dubcon. Yes, yes, I know.
Summary: "Let me get this straight. I have to run a gauntlet of your kinky sexual fantasies to get out of here?"
Notes: Thank you to Tingler, Dossier, and Celtic Tigress for their gleeful beta support — and to Amothea (again) for cheerleading me through the first draft. I could not have done it without you. As for Rodney's hair-splitting over gantlet and gauntlet, technically he's correct, but both spellings have been in use for the last 300 years. It's an etymological mystery why. Word Choice: New Uses, Common Confusion, and Constraints.

Oh, Icarus, that was truly amusing dub con. I was trepidatious at that summary, but I am happy to report that I did giggle several times while reading this. :D

The fantasies were Rodneyish, definitely (IOW, borderline obnoxious and wince-worthy). *snicker*

Reading other people's stories, I found that not knowing the author names, I relied heavily on the summary. If the summary didn't work for me--click--to the next. Lesson noted for next time.

Thank you very much. What does IOW mean?

It's not a bad summary--I am just leery of dub con as a personal taste thing, and the line could be either very funny (in context) or it could be what I was afraid of, dub con of the sort I don't like.

IOW = In other words. Sorry, not common enough to use casually, I guess.

A summary that worries the potential reader is a bad summary. I noticed a pattern. The confident well-established writers all had rather lame summaries.

Laziness?

Something I forgot to say in my comments on the story: I *loved* the beginning with Rodney nitpicking over John's language!

Thank you. Rodney can be such an intellectual snob, even on topics he knows little about. ;)
