icarus: (Happy Rodney by Monanotlisa)

Apparently there's a gay porn company that does "Gay For Pay" porn videos.

They pay young straight guys who've never had gay sex $4,000 to be filmed their first time with a guy. (One time only, obviously.)

I have so got to see this. Oh my god, how vulnerable these guys must be. Wow, that sounds hot.

Can I pay someone $4,000 internet dollars to write a fic where John does gay-for-pay as a young Air Force pilot? And Rodney sees it years later and thinks John really is gay, but John isn't, he only did it that one time and it was for four grand which was a lot of money. And then Rodney offers John four grand now and John slams the door in his face? And Rodney's outside the door saying, "But there won't even be any cameras! I think it should be a grand less just for that!"

P.S. Just saw Daedalus Variations. Excellent creative idea. Tense and action-packed. I did not know how they were going to get out of this alive. I'm reminded of last year's run of fics where John or Rodney bounces from one alternate reality to another, one where Rodney finds himself dealing with a different John every 24 hours, another where John finds himself confronted with a married Rodney, a third where Rodney gets thrown into an alternate reality where John's a woman and separated from that universe's Rodney... were there more? This is a job for... *steps into phone booth* [livejournal.com profile] sgagenrefinders! *that was funnier in my head*

- John giving himself the pep talk, oh, hee. I can just see John's thinking there: "I know his commanders never praise this guy, and let's face it, we can't blame them. But it's nice to hear once in a while, even if it's from -- more or less -- himself. Not that he'll ever know that, which makes all the difference--wait. He thinks I'm a great commander and pilot, too? And he doesn't know it's me? Gosh."

- Thank you SGA for not making Ronon instantly fabulous at video games the railgun.

- I'm impressed that John made the right call getting involved in that universe's fight. I thought it was a bad mistake on his part.

- Geeze those grey guys were hard to kill. Total rip-off of Battlestar Galactica with the crash-boarding there, but ripping off the best is always a good idea.

- Love that Rodney still wants to make that device. Proof enough that he designed it in the first place.

- Hooray Zelenka! Hooray Chuck! Hooray Lorne!

- Rodney as father scares John? You and me both, pal, you and me both.

Now I want to finish that fic where John fathers kids all over the Pegasus galaxy. I can't explain why.

At least Playgirl's less-risque content was a case of self-censorship by its female editorial staff rather than repression by the Boys' Club, as is the case with the way the mainstream movie industry recoils in terror at the merest hint of a penis.

Excellent point ... and oh dear gawd no kidding re: hinting about penis! We can have full-on female frontal nudity in prime time but the world will end if we see a dangly bit. *headdesk* Though one great thing about Canada is French television -- amazing what shows up there. Even guy-bits! :-D

I've not heard anything complimentary about the Playgirl folks from any of my acquaintances with porn connections, but I guess I can see how they'd consider themselves better barometers of what women find sexy than straight men would be.

I can see how they might consider themselves that, yes, then again ... there is an astounding number of adult products being marketed to females. How do we know they're for the wimminfolk? Well, they're pink, because "the ladies" must like that sort of colour. *eyeroll*

True story: I once wrote a letter to Playgirl about previews for some of their videos that concentrated on besiliconed porn starlets moaning for the camera rather than hot guys...

Unfortunately a massive number of people in 'marketing' have absolutely no idea what they're talking about, have no knowledge of demographics or psychographics, never mind actually collect data from their target market in a meaningful way. Along with that, even folks who should know better often pull completely irrelevant details into their messaging.

My 'local' rant has been about our province's recent attempts to prevent ATV (all-terrain vehicles) to be driven by kids too young to have drivers' permits. We have a huge rural population here and they are heavily used on farms by kids to do chores, etc. (Horses are no longer in abundance like back in the day.) At any rate, one of the 'proofs' of the terrible dangers of youth ATV use is a factoid along the lines of '95 per cent of all ATV injuries occur in rural areas.' Erm, I should hope so. ATV use in urban areas is illegal here. I expect more relevant would be to note what percentage of ATV injuries are by regular farm/work users versus recreational (occasional) users. I suspect that severity might be higher in regular users but frequency is probably far higher among recreational users. But that type of statement would be intelligent, and neither gov't nor marketers seem to use that setting very often. ;-)

Sorry to be so ranty today ... my inner!Rodney needs to be duct-tapped quiet for awhile, I think. *g*
