You've probably read Auburn's Big Bang fic, but you might not have found Suffer Me Not To Be Separated (http://www.eternalvox.net/~auburn/suffermenottobeseparated.html) which is brilliant and epic and lovely: They destroyed the city when they left it, the Atlantis expedition is recalled. Sheppard/McKay.

Double Occupancy (http://hieroglyfics.net/double.htm) by Isiscolo -- An oops with a bit of Ancient tech ends up with John and Rodney sharing Rodney's body. Good adventure and all, plus an appropriate amount of funny. :)

Advantage (http://trickster.org/res/advantage.html) by Resonant -- Some locals assume John is the servant of the group, and helpfully help him be an excellent one, linking him to Rodney, whom they assume is in charge. Another good blend of drama and humor.

Loving Rodney (http://visionsofprettyboys.com/Atlantis/LovingRodney.htm) by Lady Ra -- Atlantis loves Rodney. John eventually does too. Very sweet.

Little Bear (http://kellifer-fic.livejournal.com/25065.html) by Kellifer -- John gets turned into a baby polar bear, and Rodney ends up on bear-sitting duty. Fun and cute. :)

Except that's not really what it's about -- it's Rodney-inside learning to adjust to this new place and new circumstances and coming to fit in, in his own cranky way.

Give Back What You Take (http://darkrosetiger.livejournal.com/330179.html) by Darkrosetiger -- Rodney McKay as a snarky, superior, exasperated ghost. IOW, just like he was when he was alive, only dead. Not ROFL-type funny but a great thread of humor.

Forget Me Not (http://maisierita.livejournal.com/14509.html) by Maisierita -- An really excellent combination of prisonfic and amnesiafic, with John and Rodney incarcerated in a town-sized prison where all the inmates have had their memories wiped. Wonderful characterization and a lot of great little details.

Catch-19 (http://community.livejournal.com/mcshep_match/7221.html) by Mmmchelle -- A wonderfully fun story, turning the "secret marriage" cliche inside out. John's about to be removed from Atlantis for political reasons, because he's an American. Rodney makes the obvious suggestion -- that he change citizenship by marrying someone who isn't an American.

Ritual (http://asylums.insanejournal.com/stewardess_fics/2354.html) by Stewardess -- After a mission where Rodney almost blows it (again), John decides he's going to get through to him. Very intense, very deeply emotional. Somewhat controversial in comments; not for the faint of heart or delicate of sensibilities, but if you can deal, it's awesome.

So, the recipe is really simple. However, I write recipes with the assumption that they will be read over completely before you start making the food.

You need, for 6-8 servings (and it reheats well):

3lbs potatoes (idaho)
About 6-8 cloves of garlic, to taste
4-6 oz of cream cheese
sour cream to taste
1/4 c. of butter (try to use butter, rather than oleo)

Okay, all these amounts are approximate--this isn't rocket science (or baking!), this is mashed tatoes.

Peel and chunk the potatoes. Boil the potatoes with the cloves of garlic in the water, until the potatoes are soft. Drain the water (save it if you're making gravy) and leave the cloves of garlic in with the potatoes. Dump potatoes and garlic into your mashing vessel, over the butter.

As you're mashing, add the cream cheese and gradually add the sour cream (the sour cream will thin the potatoes, so be careful with this). Use more cream cheese if you are using the potatoes as part of a soft-food diet, so you pack more calories into each serving. Mash and mix until the potatoes are smooth and consistent.

Put the whole mess into a casserole dish, sprinkle with paprika for prettiness, and bake in a 350F oven for about 30 mins. You can make the potatoes ahead and chill them, pulling them out to bake when you are ready to serve. Chilled, it may take longer than 30mins. However, if you are baking it right after mashing, then it may take less. Watch it carefully.

This reheats well--if you have little ceramic ramekins, just spoon a serving in and nuke it in the microwave when you want some.

Also, just some advice for living on a soft-food diet: Make sure to avoid acidic things, like juice (yes, even apple juice is acidic, to a mouth full of incisions!). Stick to powerade (I suggest the red kind) so you can replenish electrolytes and salt. Powerade hydrates better than Gatorade or water. If you're really starved for calories, like I was, remember that milk has a lot of protein and good fat. Speaking of good fat--splurge on some avocados!

I don't know how much extra fat you have in reserve--I know I had major issues with losing weight when I had to go on soft-food and liquid diets for oral surgeries (I've had three, of varying degrees).

Thank you so much. Definitely drinking milk and started drinking Gookinade (a brand of powerade) on your advice. And, er, my normal weight is 98 lbs., but that's high for me. I can afford five pounds. That said, after two days of this? Man, I'm ready for food.

Remember to get fiber somehow--I used mushy raisin bran (it's pleasantly sweet after sitting in the milk long enough to get mushy). Obviously you can't eat the raisins, but it's still good stuff. Also oatmeal.

I forgot to talk about fiber.

98 lbs? Are you serious? Good golly, you area tiny creature. I can count all my ribs at 140.
