The WiP list
Sep. 26th, 2003 08:38 amA list of WiPs I am following, mostly here because I keep forgetting to check for updates. This is not part of the Democratic Fic Recs (because, as this is my personal list, it's not Democratic, is it? And these are exclusively WiPs.):
Lest I Wither
Unbecoming
Season of Healing
The Tea Series
Draco Veritas
Underwater Light
Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover
Circles of Power
If Thine Enemy
The Making of Samwise
Crystalis
Two Worlds and In Between
The Long Road to Damascus
Moving Pictures
A Lacking of Foresight
Mirror of Maybe
Procul His
Sorcerer's Apprentice
Tawdry Romance Story
Practical Magics
Snape Manor
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I will update them as more occur to me. And locate links. Too tired now. Zzzzzzz.

Alchemia Dent and Bugland; it's the sequel to A Bittersweet Potion. It's here; I don't know where else.
The Making of Samwise
I'm looking forward to the answers to the rest of these....

Date: 2003-09-27 01:34 pm (UTC)Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover (www.fanfiction.net/~madmaudlin) Mad Maudlin. She's a dynamic and genuinely funny author, slightly kinky. But I really, really like cross-dressing. ;)
Circles of Power (www.fanfiction.net/~madmartha) Mad Martha. Another genuinely funny writer with a gift for dialogue - her quips belong in signatures, really. Then there's her characterisation, and interesting, believably complicated plots.
If Thine Enemy (www.fanfiction.net/~switchknife)
The Making of Samwise (http://caralil.slashdom.com/paddock.html) Bill the Pony. Gentle, visual and sensual, this story is a feast. Bill the Pony captures Tolkien's lyrical style and makes it her own, and her rural settings are carefully considered and well-researched. You'll believe this story. Like Tolkien, it seems real.
Crystalis (http://nimori.slashcity.net/) Nimori. This is pure PWP, with barely any excuse for it. Plot? Who cares? Her sex is characterisation, and very fun. You'll have to get a password for this story.
Two Worlds and In Between (www.witchfics.org)
The Long Road to Damascus (http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Morrighan/) Morrighan. Excellent portrayal of Snape, first class writing, dark and brooding. This story has atmosphere, fully fleshed out OCs. It's also very unlikely to ever be finished.
Moving Pictures (www.witchfics.org) Anna aka
A Lacking of Foresight (http://www.ravenswing.com/~keelywolfe/) by Keelywolfe. I read Lord of the Rings fanfiction exclusively until I was frustrated by Keelywolfe abandoning the genre for other fandoms for a while. Finally, I started reading her 'The Art of Fucking' and 'A Lacking of Foresight.' Her writing style is vivid and passionate, and I enjoy pretty everything she's written, though my personal favourite is the wistful 'Sweet Purity of Apples' (LotR). Re: this story she's been rightly accused of over-glamourizing Ron and under-glamourizing Harry, and only gets away with her characterisations because she sets her story years in the future -- but she develops this story slowly, and her sex scenes are hot, hot, hot.
Procul His (http://www.intertexius.com/) Bugland and Alchemia Dent. I call it a cute cat story just to annoy those two. Since they've posted their positive reviews on their site (*Icarus raises eyebrows*) you can read those.

<a href="www.fanfiction.net/~switchknife">If Thine Enemy</a> <lj site="livejournal.com" user="switchknife">. Complex, dark and politically sublime. I'm not a fan of AUs, but Switchknife's writing is poetry, and the subtle political fencing mesmerizing.

<a href="www.witchfics.org">Two Worlds and In Between</a> <lj site="livejournal.com" user="mctabby"> aka, Minerva McTabby. This is sheer brilliance, more complicated politics, and the most unlikeable, arrogant bastard of a main character you'll ever devour. It is the most original Harry Potter fanfic I've read, yet she never veers from the importance of Magic in the wizarding world, so it feels more like Harry Potter than 99% of the stories out there.
<a href="http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Morrighan/">The Long Road to Damascus</a> Morrighan. Excellent portrayal of Snape, first class writing, dark and brooding. This story has atmosphere, fully fleshed out OCs. It's also very unlikely to ever be finished.
<a href="www.witchfics.org">Moving Pictures</a> Anna aka <lj site="livejournal.com" user="coldcoffeeyes">. A wonderfully characterised Harry/Ron. Anna's writing style is flippant and funny.

<a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/isolde9/26493.html#cutid1>Tawdry Romance Story</a>. Isolde <lj site="livejournal.com" user="isolde9">. Complex blend of 18th century sensibilities and modern morality, her characterisations of Draco and Snape are dead-on.
<a href="http://www.livejournal.com/users/isolde9/27583.html">Practical Magic</a>. Isolde <lj site="livejournal.com" user="isolde9">. Snape/Hagrid? Yes, and Isolde actually convinces me that it's real. Gently funny, wincingly embarrassing and rather dignified story.
<a href="http://home.earthlink.net/~dinkbird">Snape Manor</a>... well, that's me, actually. I was wondering if people would catch it. That's my little comment on how frustrating this story has been. *chuckles*

Heh. Sorry about that. All hysteria aside, a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
