icarus: (Happy Rodney by Monanotlisa)

For Out Of Bounds...

... I'm looking for an insulting Rodney-esque nickname to use on a skater who, in 1986, was an aging and somewhat too heavy has-been competing past his prime.

I offer home baked internet cookies, writing credit, and doe-eyed gratitude? Kind of stuck here.

What about Mr. Bojangles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r3lonOn0ko)?

What do you think? I can change the character to not be overweight but just... a late great, who's now done.

Oh, ha. But he wasn't a has been then and as a Canadian, Rodney would idolize Elvis. It's almost a national prerequisite.

There might be too much sympathy in Mr. Bojangles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r3lonOn0ko).

Hmmmm.......Elvis Stojko. No wait, that's in the 90's. *is totally innocent*

Anyways, yes, the only thing I can think of is fiddlefart which basically means goofing off (a goof is another insult all together that has a ton of meanings).

Weren't there very hefty Disney characters that performed in the Disney on Ice shows?

It's kind of obscure but there was that funky cartoon from 1980 Animalympics, I think that had a tubby chicken that was an ice dancing partner with a thing lizard...or I could just be having an acid flashback...

sled bottom as opposed to lead bottom. Or, sled foot. He's too broad for one blade per foot. He needs two to keep him upright.

Or, the easy one. Zamboni.

In Fantasia, there were the dancing hippos -- inexplicably graceful in their corpulence!

They danced to The Dance of the Hours, aka "Camp Granada". (Hello, muddah; hello, faddah; here I am at Camp Granada!)

I actually like Mr. Bojangels. While he's not unsympathetic...he's definately not enviable. He is the picture of a sad has-been.

How much does Rodney hate him?

Date: 2008-09-24 02:27 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] icarusancalion.livejournal.com
Not much. It's more the other way around, because of the nickname, which the press picked up and used.

It might be better if it's highly accurate and not entirely negative, so the press is more likely to use it.

I'll send you the scene so far. Tell me what you think.

I was thinking that there's got to be a r/l example of what you're looking for... but you think I can come up with any names? Nope. Sooo many skaters skate past their prime and there has to be one from that time period... The only one I can think of that's close would Chris Bowman maybe? As horrible as that sounds because he's, well, dead...

I've just realized that I've been absolutely no help :P

To make this post somewhat worthwhile, here's a link for 'Cruel Names for Overweight Vampires'. Seriously. http://www.mcsweeneys.net/links/lists/10MartySems,NathanChandler,CalClinchard,andAmyCassner-Sems.html
And Sawyer's nicknames for Hurley: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/641007/a_lost_guide_to_sawyers_nicknames_for.html

Good luck!

These are probably lame, but since you're looking for something to represent outdated, I looked it up and came up w/ these two.

Fossile foot, Square skater. Both refere to outdated, old and not able to fit with the times. Not jazzy, but a thought?

Vieux Patineur (old skater) somethings sound different in french though I don't know if this is totally correct as I don't speak it I just looked it up.

I look forward to reading more and seeing this come to a great conclusion
