I nearly choke to death laughing at that last night when I saw it; except for the fact that the girls gone wild guy is such an enormous dick (in the bad way, with the whole underage girls/drugging them/etc to get his video), I was all, hey, I don't object to this any more than I do paying the great big parachute payment whatsits for the bank and auto CEOs. I'm not a fan of Hustler either, frankly (don't know anything about Girls Gone Wild). I always thought it was tacky. But Larry Flynt's point? Dead on. Congress shouldn't be in the business of deciding which industry gets propped up and which doesn't.

I saw a picture of someone (at a protest, I think). Just an average citizen holding up a sign that said basically, 'No job, no prospects, $90,000 in debt. Where's my bailout?' And to that I say Amen.

Where is Joe Citizen's help? 'Sorry, can't help you. Trying to save the rich here. They have to get by on a few paltry million dollars. They have to eat too.'

Okay, yeah. I've got some deep anger at all the bailing out of the incompetent, greedy, stupid shitheads. And now this. I don't know whether to laugh my head off or play the world's tiniest violin just for Larry.

I want it to go through because I agree-- it's an industry (and treating it like it isn't, IMHO, allows seedier stuff to go on and the people performing in it to be treated and thought of badly, IMHO)-- but it shits me that the GGW arsehole is one of the ones up there. If it'd been Larry Flynt and Hugh Heffner, or some ex-performer running their own porn business or something, cool.

I just feel icky seeing that Francis cretin treated like he's legit. :/

I suspect-- don't have any stats on it-- that sex workers (of the prostitutional type) might be hurting a bit, though.

A friend of mine in the industry said that the economic dramas over here were fucking up work for her-- less disposable income-- and other businesses, too. I mean, what's $25 a month for a shitload of porn compared to $100 for an hour of someone's time and some sex to some people?

(And I think porn would have gone that way, economic crisis or not. The net provides a more anonymous means of purchasing and consumption-- and it's more immediate than, say, buying some mags/vids and having to go home to view them. Nowadays you just get to upload from the comfort of your own home... To me, it's just evolution. :) )
