Instrumental music hunt.
Jan. 25th, 2009 05:58 pmWorking on the music for John's competitors for the long program.
I have John's music for the short and long program (of course). I (probably) have all the necessary competitor's short program music. I have all but one of the needed music for the long program.
I've got most of the music, but I'm looking for a "bouncy" piece (can't have any lyrics) that's 4:30 minutes or longer. I need something with "pep." Could be classical, jazz, flamenco, or rock instrumental.
(I had to delete some practice music because it came out after 1999.)
Any ideas? Thoughts? Those who follow figure skating, anything I could steal from this year's competitions?

Date: 2009-01-26 02:47 am (UTC)Bouncy can mean upbeat and happy, but this list does not really go there, so I want to further define: Do you want 'bouncy' that is perhaps instead 'dramatic' and up tempo? Also, how modern? There are a lot of modern instrumentals that go past 4 mins, but they contain things like electric guitars and synthesizers. Couple more parameters, and I can whittle a collection for you, rip it and upload.

Date: 2009-01-26 03:15 am (UTC)I've considered a Sufi mevlavi piece for Fletcher's long program. Indian I hadn't considered, but Ta'al had just come out in the late 90s so would have popularized some Indian music. What do you have in mind?

Date: 2009-01-26 03:05 am (UTC)- The Warsaw Concerto is a figure skating standby, for a conservative skater.
- Dragonheart for the young kid with a taste for swords and sorcery.
-All right, I haven't matched the Rachmaninov piece up to anyone yet but it was one of those pieces that had sections I loved and sections I hated, so I made my own mix with only the parts I liked. :D And I put so much work into it, someone's going to skate it, heh.
- I've fallen for Read Me To Sleep, probably going to be skated by David Bellamy, the guy who married the ice dancer.
- John's music is very different, Daiko drums, and I want it to stand out.
Key words: I'm looking for something that's up tempo and bright. I was hunting through Gershwin but, sigh, too much piano already. Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro" is a good example of what I'm looking for. I'm avoiding anything that would have not existed before 1998 for obvious reasons.
Probably not modern or rock (no Apocalyptica doing Metallica's "Unforgiven" for example) because I don't want anyone to outdo John's "cool" factor. So... 1950s and earlier. Classical, possibly baroque style?

Date: 2009-01-26 04:15 am (UTC)::cracks open jazz collection::
I've got instrumentals of the "Algiers Stomp," "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone," "The Original Dixieland One-Step," "The Weary Blues" (which is far more bouncy than you'd expect) and "Milenburg Joys" that might work. Some were technically not released on recording until the 00s, but you can probably fudge the exact origins. (Especially since the Preservation Hall band has been operating since the sixties). Want me to send you anything?
