I keep writing scenes that aren't in the outline, but the word count at least is moving upward:

29998 / 40000 words. 75% done!

I think I can get it done in time. I do have a friend coming into town Saturday night. But who needs sleep anyway?

Good news: heard back from two betas. Both agreed that, wow, yeah, your draft is very rough. But they're eager to read more and are enjoying the story.

Thank you. That gets me past my mid-story neurosis.

Er. And I still have 19 scenes to go. I could swear at least one of the scenes I wrote was in the outline....

Tell me about it. I'm in the very same boat, down to roughly the same word count.

Hang in there, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with an great fusion idea.

They spawn. I've written three scene every day for the last three days and I'm still left with eighteen more every damn night. Plus whatever my betas have told me I need to go back and add. (I'm totally cheating and intending to do that after the first draft due date. (I love that it will be on AO3 and I'll be able to edit it.)

Anyway, you're writing like the wind. Like a dragon in a dive. The important part of what your betas say is what they didn't. No, cries of horror.

Ooops. Didn't mean to give you another scene.

Curious thought sparked by that. Since the riders wear leathers for protection against the cold of Between, etc, don't you think they'd probably come up with some kind of goggles? Pern has glass, after all. Or do they get taught to close their eyes before going between? 'Cause I'd think the cold would be very bad for their eyes.

Maybe old riders who haven't taken care of their eyes go blind.

That and split ends, the bane of all dragon riders.

I'd bet human-dimensioned Holds make riders claustrophobic.
