Detroit 187
Oct. 4th, 2010 10:44 pmYou know, I keep seeing these ads for Detroit 187. Looks like a great show. All these tough-looking white guys worthy of the Bronx.
One thing though.
I'm from Detroit.
I've never met a white Detroit cop.
I'm sure there's at least one.

Date: 2010-10-06 04:28 pm (UTC)Detroit has a huge black population but there are still a lot of whites, especially in the police/fire category.

Date: 2010-10-06 04:41 pm (UTC)If you want a debate you can talk to the people who follow the whole race!fail thing. I just watched the previews for the show and squinted: The place looks like Detroit, but these don't look like Detroit cops.
I get the sense that someone had cop show idea based in NYC, but NYC's been done, so they cast around for a random city ... and came up with Detroit. But Detroit, New York, they're not interchangeable.
Also, the white kids I know from Detroit all sound like Eminem. The white guys on that preview? They sound like ... tough New York kids.
Check out the show (imdb has the cast listing) and look askance with me. Or don't.
Anyhow. I put the population of white cops in Detroit at five. One for each precinct.

Date: 2010-10-06 07:02 pm (UTC)I agree that the show has far, far too few blacks. Something like 60% of the officers are African American. It's just that you said you didn't know any white police officer and I did and my daughter does. But then my BIL was a fireman and Pokey works in a bar and gets to meet a large cross section of people.
No debate, not me. That's why I stay out of fandom except for the fic, I'm too old and tired for drama.
