I was just writing to dkwilliams about fanfic, 'fresh' stories, and what makes a real impact.

I have a challenge for everyone who cares to take it up. There's no time limit. There's no specific subject matter. You can think about this forever, or dash it off tomorrow. We need never hear back about this challenge.

Write a story about a pairing you've never read. It could even be Harry/Draco, so long as you've never read a single Harry/Draco fanfic.

Think about it.

And let's see what happens.

was just wondering about the ratings for the Percyficathon. I've had to start writing my story again (because fuck, the other was getting me nowhere), and it's staying very neutral. Do you think that's alright or should i add gropes and snogs? :$

We have Gen, G-rated, PG-13 -- it's all good. Go with the flow of the story.

Hm, that could be an entertaining challenge. Of course, when I think about pairings, I think about pairings I like, whether they're common or not, like Harry/Cedric or Harry/Ron. You should probably give a link to a random pairing generator, or put another one on your website; if someone can think of a pairing, he or she already thinks of those two characters as something that could be a pairing, and may have already read or written it. Of course, given a moment, I can think of lots of pairings I haven't read (Harry/Moody, Hermione/Hooch, Tom/Minerva, Myrtle/Minerva, even commoner ones like Hermione/Oliver or Hermione/Minerva). All of the stories this challenge will generate will be romantic, or if not either smutty or overtly romantic, essentially about the relationship between two characters, which could get tiring, but I'd love to see some of the Blaise/Animagus!Hedwig or Tonks/Minerva that this will produce anyway; it could be a lot of fun.

I think it's a matter of using the personalities of the two to create something plausible. There can be some lively, interesting stuff as a result.

*snickers* I had the same thought. I've read a lot of stories with side pairings I've even seen Snape/Petunia somewhere (and the nasty author didn't even bother to give a warning with that pairing). Still it is an interesting challenge.
