"Hi! Welcome to the tutoring center! Guess what? We're having an office party today! Potluck, bring food.

What do you mean it's the week before finals and you're not in the mood?

What do you mean you loathe parties, office parties most of all?

C'mon, Icarus. Wipe that Snape-ish snarl off your face, stop swearing, bake something, and come 'be entertaining' for an hour or two!

What do you mean you'd rather clean the catbox with your teeth?"

I have to admit, no matter how many times I tell myself I'm going to go, no matter how many times I've promised I'll go...

... I have, in 17 years of employment, never been to an office party. I always, always bail at the last minute.

I really mean to go. But I make a break for freedom every time.

On another subject... whimper, whine... I don't suppose you have any Jack/Daniel recs? *puppy dog eyes* I've just burned through all over Kalimyre's fics (didn't buy the 'bully' ones, she shows her age there, but her Jack and Daniel are so intelligent), I've read Anna S., Thegrrrl, Brighid... please?

Hee. I rec'd Loki's Curse to you.

The Huntress? Gigglefest? I bet I'll love 'em.

Mallory? Cerebral? Sounds great!

I'm not big on the angst, but a title like Conduct Unbecoming has to be tried.

Thank you. *collapses at your feet in gratitude*

More on The Huntress... I've just realised she's written WAY more than I thought, so start from the bottom (I've been going through Area 52 by oldest J/D fics posted first) - The Survey Says is screamingly funny, as is The Gambler, and A Walk on the Wild Side had some great moments.

That might make things easier. :D

I think that's wise, honestly. Office parties never do anything but suck. :-)

As for fic... hmmm. Okay, I liked Conduct Unbecoming (http://www.area52hkh.net/ash/hellblazer/conduct01.php) by Hellblazer, but you may not - it's really, really heavy on the angstarama (it's a guilty pleasure type fic, anyway :D).

Also - you have read Loki's Curse (http://www.area52hkh.net/asj/jonah/curse.php) by Jonah in the Whale, haven't you? Someone recced it to me and I can't remember who.

[livejournal.com profile] juxiantang's written a Jack/Skaara - it's on my list, I haven't read it yet, but it might be interesting... A Little Place For Two (http://www.area52hkh.net/asj/juxian/place.php).

Meredith Bronwen Mallory is my personal hero - her list of fics is here (http://www.area52hkh.net/author.php?name=Meredith+Bronwen+Mallory), and they're all good, if very cerebral. I like that style of fic very much, but I know that not everyone does.

The Huntress (http://www.area52hkh.net/author.php?name=The+Huntress)' humour fics make me very, very happy, but it's hard to rec humour - other people might find her fics silly, but I got a really good giggle. I haven't been brave enough to try her Jack/Daniel/Teal'c/Jonas fic yet (argh!), but her funny stuff is well worthwhile.

I'll get back to you if I find anything else. For the most part, what I've been reading is astoundingly average.
