I'll be darned.

The Hat Trick, a story I sweated blood over, that drove me crazy, that I thought was too dark, that I feared my Ron Fic-A-Thon recipient would hate, that turned out to be a story that impressed my father (always a difficult task) has been nominated for a Multifaceted Award in the category of Best Ron Fic.

*blinks* I needed good news right about now.

I admit, I'm curious who's nominating people *G* High Flight was nominated for the femslash category, despite the fact that it's barely started and more gen than anything else.

Not that I mind the attention! But still.

You never know. And you never know why people nominated you either. I'm betting part of why The Hat Trick is up there is because someone went -- "Oh darn, someone else nominated X. Hmmm... what can I nominate? Oh. Right!"

Gambling, depression and self-destruction is just not what I consider a likely Award-winning combination.

Congratulations! But it doesn't surprise me, you know - I love that story and it definitely deserves an award.

Are any of yours up there? I must admit that with the limited online time right now I didn't check.

We must do something about this. Interesting slant to these nominations. The Hat Trick but not the far more popular Beg Me For It. Ron/Harry, but not much in the way of Ron/Draco....

Doesn't bother me - any "award" is going to be a bit subjective. I mean, how often do ordinary mortals agree with the Oscar and Booker nominations?

Hmmm. I wonder which fic I should nominate?

:D

Also, it's nice that a 'lesser-known' fic like The Hat Trick gets a mention.

(Sorry, I don't mean to keep splitting my comments up - I just post something then remember that actually I wanted to add something else ...)

I feel like the foreign feature film that got nominated for best costumes. I know I'm not gonna get it, but I appreciate it nonetheless.

Though I do wish they linked to the stories. I thought the whole point of this award nonsense was for us utilize them as unusually varied rec lists.

That doesn't surprise me. It's a very clever story (I had to really keep my brain turned on, to follow it) and it deserves the award itself, in addition to a nomination!

Thank you! I must admit to a surprised you had to sharpen up to follow it? ;)

Oh, it's not going to win. It's neither very well known nor popular, and many people get frustrated at the ending. But it was a big surprise (and pleasure) to see it nominated.

*smiles* Your estimation of my intelligence is flattering, but a bit idealized, Icarus. I'm quite capable of mind-numbing stupidity, at least once a week.

Oh yeah, I read it when it was first posted - I remember how you agonized over it when you were writing it.

Just commenting to say that I may not comment much on here cause I've been busy with a limited internet connection in England, but I thought it would amuse you to know hat I've been absolutley living off your Jack/Daniel fic recs for the last week.

I'm unsure of whether or not to be ashamed of myself at this point. . . ^^;;;

Nope! I'll have to dig up some more for you.

For example, [livejournal.com profile] destina just did a wonderful fun Jack/Daniel fic. Cruise on over there. :D

I gotta say I really liked this picture of the Trio's future (must be the angst-slut in me). It's one of those stories that pulls everything in the HP books into a world I can almost believe in, because it's magical but mundane (in a good way).

Oh, and I like your Harry, especially since I've just written something that sort of paints him in the same colors :)

Thank you. It's a lot... darker isn't the word. More dreary I suppose than what I usually write. Ron's job really sucks, but not nearly as much as the corruption he encountered in the Quidditch world.

Oh, and I like your Harry, especially since I've just written something that sort of paints him in the same colors :)

That was the part that garnered me the most complaints from the youthful audience. "But Harry is more noble than this." Hmm. Actually, he seems pretty normal to me, and it's normal for a guy his age (especially rootless after his victory over Voldemort) to sleep around. All that fame's got to be good for something, right? Glad to see I'm not alone in this opinion.

Same here, I got a lot of "well, that's a really...interesting view of Harry" when I posted a few fics with that theme, but it makes a lot of sense. I get the vibe that Harry's almost expecting to die by the end of the war, so if he survives I think he'd kind of go buck-wild, for lack of a better term.

Dreary is a really good word, sums things up perfectly. I'm glad this got nominated, it's a good fic and I hope you win :)
