I've been plagiarized.

Skinny Dipping has been ripped off and posted on Fanfiction.net.

My story, Skinny Dipping, Harry/Percy, was written in 2003. So far as I can tell Cedric17 didn't change a word.

The reason I'd never posted it at Fanfiction.net is that the story is NC-17, violates the TOU, and it even includes underaged sex. Harry is 14 and Percy is 18.

ETA: I bet they thought they could get away with this because it's a lesser-known story, having had less play because of the chan issue.

I reported it simply for being plagarism. I mean, that's the worst you can get on all that, you know? Chan, NC-17, that can be annoying and bad for the little'uns around ff.net, but that it's yours...well.

We'd better see some bloody action, yo, or heads will roll.

iibnf tells me that it took ff.net three weeks to respond to take down her plagiarist, which, given the size of the site, makes sense. Even if I'm not happy about it.

Bah! That's too long! You'd think that they'd check the complaints about the illegal things first, before going after the stupid reasons...

...For once, I'm glad not many people know me or my work. No reason to plagarise something if it's not popular enough to be known in the first place.

More news on that, apparently it took a Huge number of complaints and emails. The plagiarist had numerous stories by various authors, gmth, predatrix, and others. I'm asking for more details to find out exactly what it'll take to get the story taken down.

Well, you know you've got a ton of us here who will do anything we can to get this sorted for you. 'Cause this is just not on, and you don't deserve to have someone copying your stuff.

On the other hand, it's a rather backwards sort of compliment, that they liked that fic enough to want to steal it. Not making it better, but it is a bit flattering...

I'm hoping this situation is far simpler than iibnf's, involving one story and one author, rather than multiple stories and authors.

It is a backhanded compliment, amanuensis1 has a point. It's a sort of rite of passage for an HP author to be plagiarized. Though really, I'd much prefer some fan art.

Hey, I'm on chapter 18 of TS (which I am so proud of myself for, by the way), and I have at least one drabble to write because of Laura reccing me to the Czech Republic. XD And with Lumos in OMG FOUR DAYS, fanfic is so out of the question.

I remember this story rather well. It is one of the few Percy stories I've actually read, and I read it because I LOVED your 'Primer Against the Dark Arts' stuff.

As for plagiarising? Sadly in HP it seems to be common. I could take a few swipes at a certain BNF who got busted for it and has a publishing contract now, but so not worth the time. I just hate seeing someone trying to pass off someone else's hard work as their own. The only good thing I can say for this particular plagiarist was she had good taste in theft, she stole from a very good writer. But hell no one needs a thief, ya know?
