I have two favors to ask of you.

Second: Post about the Livejournal representative election. Urge your friendslist to vote and then post about the vote.

If massive numbers of fandomers surge to vote, then we will have our pick of fandom candidates. Instead of being a race between an anti-fandom candidate, jameth and fandom candidate legomymalfoy, we can have a race between legomymalfoy and rm.

I know we can easily reach 14,000 fandomers. I've added up the f-lists of those who've posted about the vote already. And you don't have to wait. Because you can change your mind between now and Thursday.

As of this moment, the numbers are:

jameth - 2508 (17.8%)
legomymalfoy - 3785 (26.9%)
rm - 1522 (10.8%)
vichan - 707 (5.0%)

I've nothing against this guy personally, but I don't like his paranoid campaign and troll history.
jameth attacked fandom once he fell behind, accusing us of sockpuppeting with up to 200 puppets per fandomer (seriously?) all based on an "anonymous tip." (Other moments that smack of conspiracy theories include fears that LJ is locking in votes and jameth blaming legomymalfoy for a supporter being kicked off IRC chat by burr86. Let's not forget the backhanded pre-emptive swipes at all the candidates, with the caption "I don't think _my_ platform is going to change. Not sure about anyone else's, though." Not someone I would want to work with. For more paranoia: He now fears Legomymalfoy's ahead because the LJ support team doesn't like him.)

Longstanding fandomers like telesilla (whom you might remember from her reporting of strikethrough and FanLib) and caras_galadhon and others, remind us jameth is a known troll, while bethbethbeth points out the strongly anti-fandom attitude of his supporters, which he's made no effort to contradict.

But hey, let's plague an epileptic's journal with flashing icons!
So I guess it should come as no surprise that his supporters are deliberately posting flashing icons in the comments of an epileptic's journal. At least one other epileptic has been affected, so turn off graphics if you click to rydra_wong's journal. The bigdecision08 community which is run by three jameth supporters has posted about this, unfortunately directing jameth's supporters to her journal. I've asked jameth what, since he's seeking a leadership role and has been comfortable telling people to vote for him in all three categories, does he have to say about this? So far, although he's fine with directing people to vote for him and then null out in all categories, not a peep. To rydra_wong it's not his problem. Nice guy. ETA: I asked him about it and he replied "what post?" This guy's totally full of shit. He'd already replied to rydra_wong's post several times. He's attempting to run on his RL credentials, but I've learned in comments here that someone who's worked with him IRL "does not have complimentary things to say about his skills with dealing with people."

I've been cruising around and reading various links about election stuff.

I just wanted to tell you that I personally have about 100 journals registered on LJ and IJ for various RPGs. They aren't all *active* journals - some are names I wanted to register for future purposes and some are former RP journals, but, at least in the circles I hang with, having a large number of journals isn't that unheard of.

And, no, I didn't vote with all of those journals. They're all registered to the same email account and it's not worth my time and effort to change that.

Amazing. It looks like the RPG crowd does have massive numbers of LJs. It sucked me dry just doing two RPG characters for hp_dungeons, but I guess people would be surprised I've written between 100 and 200 fanfics, too.

Are the RPGers voting for legomymalfoy? Did you as an RPGer vote for legomymalfoy? Will an RPGer go through the effort of setting up new emails for 100 accounts just for this election (and changing them back afterward if they use those characters)? You haven't.

jameth was quick to accuse legomymalfoy's supporters of sockpuppet votes as soon as he fell behind--at a point where myself and most of my friendslist didn't even know there was a vote. Or care.

Fandom's response to this vote has been pretty tepid, especially for fandom. The active fandom was about 35,000 people last summer (fandom_counts.livejournal.com/profile). legomymalfoy has about 8,000 votes last I checked--6,000 of those since jameth's accusations.

It would be naive to think that people aren't using sock accounts to vote. But it would be equally naive to assume that it's not happening on all sides.

I personally was supporting squeaky19 from IJ because he runs IJ the way I wish LJ was run - openly and honestly.

I know there was also a candidate who is in a couple of my RPGs, so I don't know for sure how the votes went for the games I'm personally in, but most of my f-list was supporting Squeaky.

And, yes, I agree that it's naive to think people aren't voting for all the candidates with more than one journal.

I checked out the timings. The surge in votes for legomymalfoy occurred after jameth's accusation of sockpuppet votes.

- jameth posted on the 23rd at 15:40:00 UTC here (http://jameth.livejournal.com/4349665.html) with his accusation that legomymalfoy, his closest competitor, was getting sockpuppet votes.

- I recorded the standings on the 23rd at at 16:56:00 UTC here (http://icarusancalion.livejournal.com/758270.html).

"jameth has 1725 votes. legomymalfoy has 1553 votes. No one else is even in the ball park."

- Within hours of his accusation, that total had risen to (in the same post):

"And now... jameth has 1877 votes and legomymalfoy has 2124."

As it works out, jameth was 172 votes ahead when he made the accusation. Within hours of making it, he was behind by 247 votes. My reading of this is that his accusation made him look like he was anti-fandom, and he pissed off the fandom voters. He blundered while he was ahead.

That's really interesting. If anything has become apparent in the last year, it's "don't mess with fandom". So that kind of amuses me.

My main issue with jameth isn't actually with him so much as it is with his "supporters". They have been obnoxious since the start, with their macros and "seizure the moment" icons and being so defensive about everything. I think they are doing him more harm than good, personally. His RL creds actually don't seem that bad for the position, but the behavior that is occurring in his name on LJ (the platform for which he is running) leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
