Well. We're back.

We just got home.

wildernessguru's mom passed away at 3:40am Saturday morning.

Not chatty at the moment. More details later.

As it works out, if we hadn't built in that extra day for the nationals -- which I blew off -- we would have arrived late Friday night with plans to see her on Saturday... and she would have been gone.

As it was, the entire family, all the kids and grandkids were there Friday.

Thank you for all your thoughts, prayers, candles, and good wishes. I know they helped. Talk to you tomorrow.

And I did get to see part of the nationals. WG stayed an extra night so that we could have ESPN in the hotel. So I did see most of Ryan's performance and the standing ovation, as well as Lysachek and Johnny Weir.

This whole death thing is a bad idea. There are no good circumstances to die, given this was as ideal as you can get -- hospice, nursing care, morphine, the whole family around her telling her what a good mom she was.

God. This death thing is a bad idea, in theory and in practice. Today is a lot less surreal than yesterday though, when I was putting away her things. I have one of her bears on my lap right now (she collected teddy bears) and he still smells like her.

Death is a very, very, very bad idea. This was as good as it gets -- beautiful hospice, all the family around her telling her what a great mom she's been, meds, and passing away peacefully with her husband at her side. She seemed very peaceful. And it was still terrible.
