Am I the only one who finds LJ's new layout frightening?

Okay, I can stop stalling now and confess: I have a steaming pile of crow to eat, with a side order of lightly seasoned hat (fleece cap, thanks for asking).

I just spent two days reading SGA (Stargate Atlantis) fic. I was late for class becausse I couldn't tear myself away from [livejournal.com profile] astolat's A Beautiful Lifetime Event and I've already read Oblivious twice. I only remember the names of those two stories because:

a) they're already favorites, and
b) I'd finally slowed down in my insatiable fic-gorging long enough to read the titles.

I have fallen helplessly for Rodney McKay. With a side order of Sheppard. I confess, I've been (shame faced) watching the show (first season) on Saturday nights, just to get another glimpse of McKayness.

For three weeks.

But I was sure I could quit any time. Absolutely positive. After all, hadn't I pointed out that the production values were weak, the acting largely laughable, and... oh hell.

I have a great idea though. I'm sure I can break my addiction by reading lots of McKay/Sheppard fic (shut up, you know it'll work and if it doesn't, think of the benefits!).

Fandom, Stargaters, rec me your favorite McKay/Shep fics as a form of, uh, immersion/aversion therapy. Yeah, that's what it is.

Rodney. It's all about the Rodney.

(And Beautiful Lifetime Event is probably one of the best stories I've ever read!)

Check out live journal users Kaneko's latest (just go to her LJ, it's the top entry, I think. It's AU but brilliant dialogue/characterisation.

Astolat's No Refunds, no Exchanges is rather sweet - another AU.

There are a whole bunch more - I suggest you wander through the recs on Double Treat - her recs are of an excellent quality.

Yes, in fact I'm thinking of starting a cult. Care to join? If you get in on the ground floor you can be part of the inner circle.

You know I was just talking to [livejournal.com profile] lizardspots about AUs. I find prefer stories that add canon rather than subtract.

Where? Where can I find these recs? (I can stop any time, I can stop any time....)

Less than one week into my obsession and I've already seen the entire first season (and am considering a rewatch) and started in on McKay/Shep fic...

You know what? I'm not freakish about spoilers on this show. I think it's because unlike SG-1, I haven't been a fan since 1999.

So I'm causally watching the episodes as they pop up -- though I seriously need to see the pilot. I've got the Genii, the Wraith, got seriously hooked on Rodney (with Shep), I still think we need to give Weir an IV drip but I like her. And then... I started reading the fic.

Guh. More.

If you check out sga_newsletter (can't remember how to make it all livejournal linky, sorry) they do a good job of gathering daily links to all things SGA, and they list the McShep separately. And Flordenau's Double Treat site is also a great source of links; don't know the URL because I just click when she updates on the mckay_sheppard lj.

Wow, not completely helpful,huh?

Icarus (Dammit, I already have a Shep/McKay ficlet about their strange wake following Col. Sumner's death, when John finds an iPod with doo-whop music in Sumner's gear.

"I find it ironic that the first signs of a personality have emerged after he's dead," said Rodney, still irritated, posthumously, that Sumner had been slow to shut down power in Atlantis, costing the city precious hours--not to mention it had been humiliating to have to go over his head to Dr. Weir. Rodney harbored a private theory that they'd just witnessed natural selection at work, but he suspected he'd better not say it.

Major Sheppard stared at him, eyes narrowed in a faintly puzzled expression.

Hmm. Maybe he'd said too much already. Or confused the man. Oh well, Rodney was used to that.)

Oh no! You've been seduced to the dark side! I just hope that you don't totally give up on Jack and Daniel...they'll miss you...sob.

I'm not so much a Rodney fan as I am a Sheppard fan, but I've been reading the McShep, and boy is there some excellent stuff out there. So I read the list you've got already, and picked out some that weren't mentioned yet.

To start with, there are a couple of fic that were written by other authors, based on A Beautiful Lifetime Event. Both are good, but Resonant's is my favorite, 'cause it's got smut. *g*

Surprise by [livejournal.com profile] brighidestone picks up where ABLE leaves off.

Missing Scene by [livejournal.com profile] resonant8 a different version of the eventual sex scene. For those of us that thought the two of them should have been shagging way before shalott got to it!

Time In A Bottle by shalott ([livejournal.com profile] astolat) Speaking of...I'm not sure if anyone rec'd this one, yet, so I'll add it just in case. I think it's her newest.

Mercy another one by shalott. Not an especially easy fic to read - very intense. I rec'd this one on [livejournal.com profile] dustyrydersrecs and gave it my highest compliment - she blew me out of the water in under 1600 words.

Easy by [livejournal.com profile] stellahobbit short and sweet...just what is it that John and Rodney have going on?

Native Serendipity by [livejournal.com profile] ladyflowdi an excellent Aliens Made Me Do It fic.

The Atlantis Project by [livejournal.com profile] seperis I just linked you to her SGA page, because otherwise, I'd have to give you all three links to this series - they don't link together. Just scroll to the bottom, they're under their own heading. I know they're an AU, but looking at the ones you've liked so far, I think you'll like these. And anyway, my next rec is another of her fic, and I think you've already been rec'd to yet another of my favorites of her's Don't Tell, so you may as well just keep the page, and read the rest of them, okay? *g*

Something More by [livejournal.com profile] seperis again... Less of an AU...this one takes place in the future.

[livejournal.com profile] seperis also has really good recs on her journal, so you may want to check those out, too. She's mentioned some less well known ones that I've really appreciated.

Seems I have to cut this in two...I have too many characters...or is that too much character? *g* Part two is underneath...

Okay...on with the recs.

Over The Edge & Under The Skin by Danvers ([livejournal.com profile] sdraevn) I know Under The Skin got rec'd, but if they gave you Danver's journal version, you won't know about the prequel, which I just love. (She just wrote Over The Edge recently. Good stuff. Funny, but has some wonderful moments, as well. (The line about how Rodney and Atlantis light up to the same touch just gives me shivers.)

Retrograde by [livejournal.com profile] ltlj This one has the current SG-1 in it, but it's mostly a story about SGA and Jack. Except for the fact that Cameron Mitchell is in it, I don't think it spoils any of Season 9, at all. This fic had me on the edge of my seat, everytime, waiting for the next part. But it's completed, now. I linked you to part VI, but the other 5 parts are linked at the top of the page.

Okay, I hope I got some in there that you haven't gotten yet. Most of these are on my list for my rec journal, or are already on it, so you know I like them all. Enjoy!

Oh, yeah. I know you said you weren't that worried about getting spoiled for this one, but have you seen any Season Two yet? I think Ronon is now my favorite character on SGA...well...maybe it's a tie - kind of hard to give up the Shep. But there are some good Ronon fic out there ( I happen to have saved pretty much every one I've come across, so if you want any Ronon/anyone fic, I got the recs!

Speaking of: This one is Rodney/John & John/Ronon/Rodney & John/Ronon all mixed up together... Alpha Centauri by [livejournal.com profile] hth_the_first OMG - Good shit! I linked you to Part V but the others are all linked at the top of the page.

There are more...let me know if you're interested.

By the way...part of the reason I had this many recs to hand is your fault. If I hadn't started a recs journal, I'd never have kept all my faves in one place like this! You should see the list I have for SG-1 fics. I'm trying to spread them out, but I've got more than for any other fandom I'm rec'ing...gotta love the J/D.
