That new Adult Content rating thingy.

I changed my general settings to Adult Content then looked at my LJ.
All of my posts looked the same, with the same cut-tag. The only difference from one post to the next was the title and the music.
"Wow. What a boring journal," I said.
Eh. Forget it. I turned the settings off.
I have a percentage in being interesting to newcomers. Why read if I'm not?
I figure that between the Buddhism, school stuff, the whacked out mom (did I tell you about the time she told my friend Christopher he was the Antichrist?), David Hewlett videos, figure skating, laughing at George Bush our-new-peace-activist, annoying landlady, recs, memes, forgetting which toothbrush is whose -- yeah, I'm not seeing 50% explicit content. That setting's not for me.
In other news -- what did they do to TampaxTM? These haven't changed in 30 years and they're now... ow. They're short and stubby and too wide and shapped all wrong. Ow. This is not a place I want to hurt.

Date: 2007-11-30 09:26 pm (UTC)OMG, you too?! I thought it was just me and my residual resistance to change! I hate when products I've been loyal to for years are suddenly "NEW and IMPROVED" because they're rarely either in my eyes. I really dislike the new tampax. And I used them for years because I *really* dislike all the other products I've tried. So now I'm stuck looking for a suitable substitute. Do a pal a favor, and let me know if you find something, k? I'll do the same for you :)

Date: 2007-11-30 09:50 pm (UTC)Now if only someone could come up with the answer to needing to change them all the time from the "bleeding like a pig" syndrome :-)

Date: 2007-11-30 10:32 pm (UTC)I've never liked any of the short, stubby tampons. I wonder if that means anything...
That they suck? *smiles sweetly*

Date: 2007-11-30 09:28 pm (UTC)Ah, the beauty of research. *nods*

Date: 2007-11-30 09:40 pm (UTC)I think they must have done a survey -- what's your number one complaint about tampons? And 99% of the women complained about leakage.
So the bozos decided, "Let's make them wider so they'll leak less" not realizing that the leakage comes from something they can't control: the woman needing to step out of the middle of that 3 hour meeting to change it.

Date: 2007-11-30 10:37 pm (UTC)Edit - I'll change the subject, then. Re the adult content filter thing, if the person viewing the journal is logged in to an account with all the right boxes ticked, it will appear as intended. It will only look stupid if they are logged out, underage, or have 'collapse all remotely adult content' selected on the dropdown menu that they don't tell you about on the settings page. I suspect they're going to have to fix the way those things screw with the cut tags that people put there for a reason, so agefiltering v.2 may well be worth waiting for if you decide it's even worth it at all.

Date: 2007-12-01 06:54 am (UTC)Nah. This stuff is interesting, to see how different we are.
Tampax don't leak at all for me. They're a perfect fit -- or rather, they were. I suspect that anything called a "cup" is going to be too big. Right now I'm tired, cranky, crabby, my lower back hurts, my energy is low, and I have a headache. "Trying to shove unfamiliar object up my crotch" is not high on my list. I just want my old Tampax to fit, damn it.

Date: 2007-12-01 11:16 am (UTC)Heh, I got my cup mail order, and my first thoughts on seeing it went a little something like 'fit that up there? hell no!', and I put it back in the packaging and thought about sending it back for a few days. Then I read the instructions about folding it to put it in, and decided it might not be so bad after all. But it's certainly not something I'd want to start using right away.
Best wishes for finding non-rubbish Tampax or a suitable replacement.

Date: 2007-11-30 09:34 pm (UTC)No comment on the Tampax, but have you considered a menstrual cup? Much more comfortable than a tampon and cheaper and more environmentally friendly too!

Date: 2007-12-01 01:11 am (UTC)My mother used to buy the ones with applicators and I think they still sell them. I don't see any reason why not. Their commercials are usually for the plain ones though like you said.

Date: 2007-12-01 01:25 am (UTC)And I think the ads for those with applicators were mostly in magazines for young girls anyway.

Date: 2007-12-01 06:38 am (UTC)O.B. had two problems. First the finger application, then they'd expand too much and be difficult to pull out.

Date: 2007-12-01 02:55 pm (UTC)The problem I have with tampos is that they tend to get close to the entrance when I pee, so I have to change them a lot. Of course I have missed most of my periods for the last half year or so (hormone issues), which is bad, because: hormone issues, but I can't really say that I miss the bleeding part, even though the only other symptom I usually get is having to pee a lot.

Date: 2007-11-30 10:17 pm (UTC)I do like the new applicator though. Easier to get a grip on.
:)
You need to start a letter writing campaign to the bozos who made the change. We want our old-fashioned tampons back!
Okay. I'll go now.

Date: 2007-11-30 10:37 pm (UTC)I'm cranky and tired and crampy myself. Plus extra aches from the moving.
I've been using the new stuff for at least a couple months now. Longer, I think.
And thank you for bringing up the topic. Helps to remind me I need to go out and buy more. Dammit.

Date: 2007-12-01 04:14 am (UTC)This is far too uncomfortable for me. When I started take them out just to get rid of them I knew the new style was never going to work.

Date: 2007-12-01 01:00 pm (UTC)I hate that there's not more choices with cardboard applicator. Tampax and Equate. That was all they had. Everything else, except o.b. of course, was plastic.

Date: 2007-12-01 02:08 am (UTC)Pfft, they need a 20% adult content rating for journals, for those that sometimes have it - more often than never, but not so often as to be mostly. As for the rest? Meh. At least you have variety in your posts.

Date: 2007-12-01 04:02 am (UTC)I'm thinking of doing a post on lettuce. And one detailing the Iran military laughing at just how pathetic it is. (They have *one* submarine patrolling the entire coastline. *One.* Their ballistic missle program couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.)
no subject
Date: 2007-12-01 06:15 am (UTC)See, that would definitely be variety. What sort of lettuce? Hmm, Iran is not particularly well known for its marvellous military tech despite its nice active service program and the like. Still, as many countries have shown... high tech is not all there is to that sort of thing, grim and bitter determination has a good standing too.

Date: 2007-12-01 06:48 am (UTC)I'm not sure about what kind of lettuce. But it seems a worthy topic.
As for grim and bitter determination, yes. Korea has stood up to China time and again for centuries. I'm just now learning about how Korea booted China out in the 1100s. *g* Oh, yes, China won. But not for long.
